Being a Chief Executive Officer - Physician Practice approves work procedures and standards for the units and ensures consistent implementation and enforcement. Represents the organization to investors, the industry, and the public. Additionally, Chief Executive Officer - Physician Practice may require a MD. May require State License to Practice Medicine. Typically reports to a board of directors. The Chief Executive Officer - Physician Practice manages a business unit, division, or corporate function with major organizational impact. Establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives for the given major function or line of business.   • Overview

    The purpose of this position is to lead Operations & Safety Department staff in planning, coordination, and management of daily operations of the Airport Authority. This includes Airfield and Facilities Maintenance, Building Services, Airfield Operations, Public Safety, General Aviation, Technology, and Procurement. Directs the overall operations, maintenance, and care of facilities including buildings, grounds, aircraft operational areas and equipment, and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements. Directs the development, operations and maintenance of technology and communications systems in use by the Airport Authority and airport tenants. Oversees safety and emergency management through the Public Safety team. Ensures general aviation management and business / community engagement for Downtown Island (DKX) and McGhee Tyson (TYS) airports. Directs, manages, and supervises staff in achievement of department objectives.

     

    Participates and contributes to the executive management team. Coordinates and participates in the strategic planning of goals and objectives with other departments and functional areas. Establishes, interprets, and applies rules, policies, and regulatory obligations for a variety of local, State, and Federal agencies. This position reports to the President and CEO.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

     

    The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

    • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff. Supervisory functions include: makes hiring and termination decisions in accordance with MKAA policy and procedures; prioritizes assignments and directs work; develops and oversees employee work schedules and approves time away from work; provides and/or facilitates employee training and development; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; completes employee performance appraisals; determines or makes recommendations regarding new hire salaries and salary changes in accordance with MKAA policy and procedures; and acts as liaison between employees and higher level management.
    • Manages large or complex safety and operational projects and initiatives for MKAA. This includes developing and implementing a multimillion-dollar departmental budget.
    • Ensures the efficient and effective running of day-to-day operations of TYS and DKX through associated leadership. Manages airfield, public and workplace safety and regulatory obligations. May act as back-up Airport Security Coordinator (ASC).
    • Provides strategic leadership and direction to staff and communicates associated goals. This includes developing and implementing departmental procedures and recommending organization-wide policies that align with MKAA organizational goals.
    • May provide input on specific legislative issues related to Airport Authority operations. Collaborates with outside regulatory agencies and legal counsel as needed.  Provides input on public policy as needed.
    • Performs related work as required.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

     

    Required Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in management, engineering, or related field. Equivalent years of experience may be considered if ability to meet position requirements is demonstrated.
    • Nine (9) or more years of managerial experience in a Part 139 certified airport with duties that include maintenance, operations, and safety.

    Required Licenses or Certifications

    • American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) Airport Certified Employee (ACE) certification or equivalent, or ability to obtain certification within 2 years. Industry executive level certification or accreditation preferred.
    • Valid TN driver’s license
