• Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services in various sections that may include cataloging, reference, children's services, and adult services; recommends program and procedure changes; assists in developing and implementing section goals and objectives.
• Plans and oversees work of volunteer staff.
• Ensures implementation of and adherence to the City’s Affirmative Action and diversity work plans. Coordinates the implementation of effective processes and models to produce diversity initiatives. Facilitates staff development on such issues as diversity and creating a respectful working environment.
• Assists with the preparation of budget recommendations; researches, monitors and controls expenditures.
• Advises and assists library patrons; demonstrates the use of library catalogs and other library tools; refers patrons to other agencies as appropriate.
• Develops and delivers training programs for the public; conducts tours of library, demonstrating use of online catalog and other databases.
• Networks with other community agencies to extend library services as assigned.
• Responds to citizen complaints and requests; refers patrons to books or other Library materials to further their reading interest.
• Serves at a reference desk and researches and responds to basic, difficult or technical reference questions.
• Provides age-appropriate reader’s advisory services to patrons.
• Classifies and catalogs print and non-print material, including audio visual materials, serials and printed documents; develops and maintains a variety of resource databases.
• Performs manual and computerized bibliographic searches; maintains and updates catalog files.
• Maintains expert knowledge of Internet network and search engines. Performs searches for the public; teaches search strategies and network procedures.
• Reviews new publications and materials and assists in selecting and evaluating materials for acquisition or removal from the collection. Reads reviews and purchases materials including books, magazines, videos, CD’s, and CD-ROM for library’s collection.
• Analyzes collection for development; weeds materials as needed.
• Plans, participates, and presents dynamic community programs that provide equitable access to diverse, culturally relevant and authentic experiences.
• Provides minor technical support for PC’s and other equipment.
• Organizes, maintains, and indexes a variety of reference materials including government documents, maps and pamphlets. 
• Maintains up-to-date working knowledge of materials in assigned service area through extensive on-going reading and/or review of this material; bibliographies and other media to develop expertise; keeps abreast with professional developments and current events.
• Serves on a variety of City committees, commissions, and task teams; participates in community outreach programs as assigned.
• Maintains neatness and organization of library; complies with safety policies and procedures.
• Compiles library activity reports and statistics.
• Enforces library policies; may perform in-charge-of-building duties.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

• Basic principles and procedures of professional library work including methods, practices, and techniques of library classification, cataloging, and reference.
• Standards and procedures of selecting public library materials.
• Computerized cataloging, bibliographical and circulation system data bases.
• Materials and services available in public libraries.
• Online services and sources.

• Perform professional library tasks in areas of reference, cataloging, children's or adult services.
• Operate computerized cataloging, bibliographical and circulation system data bases.
• Assist library patrons in response to reference and related library questions.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Operate City computer systems.

What to Expect from our Selection Process:  Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training.
