Chief Medical Officer directs the staff and develops policies for the organization's clinical programs. Works closely with hospital staff, department directors, and physicians to ensure that the highest standards of quality and service are maintained. Being a Chief Medical Officer oversees the implementation of quality improvement efforts designed to improve clinical performance and maintain compliance with HIPAA and other regulations and standards. Evaluates developments and innovations in medical care and makes recommendations for new practices and procedures. Additionally, Chief Medical Officer advises CEO and medical teams on matters impacting patient care. Requires a MD. Requires State License to Practice Medicine. Typically reports to top management. JOB SUMMARY:Responsible to work with physicians, other clinicians and senior leaders to create a care delivery system that supports ongoing improvement resulting in highly reliable outcomes. Leads in a manner where clinicians enjoy a work environment that is collegial and supports exceptional clinical outcomes with patients acknowledging the receipt of such that is documented via 3rd party surveys.
The CMO works to eliminate preventable harm by developing organization-wide support of safety and quality concepts through transparency, collaboration, and mutual learning. The CMO will develop as necessary and oversee a systems approach to delivery of clinically appropriate care. The CMO will enhance clinician alignment by requesting input in key decisions, developing physician leaders and the use of forums and structures in a manner that supports a systems approach to care delivery.
The CMO will create highly utilized processes such that the overhead related to auditing quality across KH will diminish materially as highly reliable processes are adopted and errors eliminated. And the CMO will work with appropriate leaders within KH to develop a ten year physician workforce plan and evaluate how best to modify and/or strengthen GME programs, specialties and residency slots to support the needs of the community and KH.
