Chief Medical Technologist jobs in Lexington, KY
Chief Medical Technologist oversees and administers a variety of chemical, bacteriologic, and microscopic tests. Devises work schedules and allocates duties to laboratory staff. Being a Chief Medical Technologist verifies accuracy and validity of test results. Instructs trainees in procedures and techniques of performing tests. Additionally, Chief Medical Technologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires professional certification. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Chief Medical Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSServes as leader and provides direction and supervision for laboratory staff, new employees and students as assigned. Demonstrates knowledgebase of hospital and laboratory policies.Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing.Collects samples and analyze bodily fluids and substances for abnormalities. Collects blood and study blood samples used in transfusions. Collects other specimens such as urine screens when necessary.Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner. Performs calibrations and quality control when required and is responsible for verifying the integrity of such testing.Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards.Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment.Performs manual tests based on detailed instructions from a physician.Runs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the patient, physician or registered nurse.Participates in hospital wide and departmental performance improvement activities.QualificationsJOB REQUIREMENTSMinimum EducationAssociate preferredBachelor's Degree preferredGraduate of program discipline in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical TechnologyRequired SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
