Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides administrative oversight for the nuclear medical technology department of a hospital. Reviews, develops and implements technical policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, quality and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Being a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist supervises nuclear medicine technologists, and may perform the functions of a technologist as needed. Ensures proper usage, maintenance and updates of medical equipment. Additionally, Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification. Typically requires Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Certification. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required. NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNOLOGIST - PRN

  • Nature of Duties:

    Provides health care services by applying radionuclides to assist in diagnosis or treatment.  Performs nuclear medicine procedures, and related techniques producing images for the interpretation by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner.  Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics.  Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.

     

    Qualifications:

    1.  Licensed by the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners

    2. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and/or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)

    3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

    4.  Good communication skills

     

    Specific Duties:

    1.  Corroborates patient’s clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.

    2.  Prepares patient for procedures:  Providing instructions to obtain desired results, gains cooperation, and minimize anxiety.

    3.  In agreement with state statutes and/or where institutional policy permits, prepares, calculates, identifies and/or administers radio pharmaceuticals and/or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, during rest and stress procedures.

    4.  Selects and operates radiation detection, imaging, and/or associated equipment to successfully perform procedures.

    5.  Position patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.  Immobilize patients as required for appropriate examination.

    6.  Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.

    7.  Evaluates images and data for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded.

    8.  Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.

    9.  Understands methods and is capable of performing venipunctures and initiates basic life support action when necessary

    10.  Assist in staffing other clinics and departments when needed.

    11.  Performs other related duties as assigned and serves in whatever other capacity deemed necessary for successful completion of the mission and goals of CIS and in concordance with its patient philosophy.

     

    Standards of Performance:

    1.  Keeps work area neat and organized. Reports safety issues to team leader immediately.

    2.  Works efficiently and manages time wisely. Assist other employees when all duties are complete.

    3.  Communicates any problems, difficulties or concerns regarding job duties to the team leader.

    4.  Performs all duties without significant error occurring with any regularity.

    5.  Meets all deadlines and timeframes for completion of assignments.

    6.  Represents CIS in a professional manner at all times. Demonstrates acceptable ability to interact with physicians, staff (“internal customers”) and “external customers” (patients, family members, insurance companies, home health etc.) on a professional level at all times. Exhibits good communication skills with physicians, patients, team leaders, and co-workers at all times.

    7.  Exhibits whenever possible a harmonious relationship with other CIS employees in order to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position.  While perfect harmonious relationships with all employees is sometimes not achievable, not more than an occasional complaint should be received by the team leader about the incumbent of this position.

    8.  The employee shall work and relate cooperatively with all other employees (internal customers) of CIS to assure optimum care for the patients of CIS and to achieve standards of care set forth by the CIS medical staff.

    9.  Adheres to the CIS Compliance Plan as it pertains to the above specific job duties. Uses best efforts to maintain compliance by following the CIS Corporate Compliance Plan, attending CIS compliance education, following medical documentation guidelines, and communicating concerns regarding compliance issues.

    10.  Performs accurate and complete documentation in the patient’s medical record, when applicable. This includes documentation in both the paper record and the electronic medical record (EMR).

    11.  Work with the electronic medical record (EMR) staff to maintain quality and work towards future EMR development.

    12.  Maintains patient confidentiality according to the HIPAA standards of privacy and security.
