Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides administrative oversight for the nuclear medical technology department of a hospital. Reviews, develops and implements technical policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, quality and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Being a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist supervises nuclear medicine technologists, and may perform the functions of a technologist as needed. Ensures proper usage, maintenance and updates of medical equipment. Additionally, Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification. Typically requires Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Certification. Typically reports to a director. Nuclear Med Technologist
Position Summary:
Under general supervision of Manager, Chief Technologist (as applicable), and under the direction of a radiologist, can perform diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures on infant, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients on designated areas of the body as requested by a physician. Understands and follows all licensures and requirements mandated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the State of Massachusetts. Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and the public and be capable of establishing good working relationships with both internal and external customers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepares patients for exams through explanation, IV placement, etc.
- Performs and monitors patients of all ages during various nuclear medicine studies including, but not limited to, myocardial perfusion studies, gastric emptying, parathyroid, HIDA, lung, renal, and thyroid scans.
- Performs computer acquisitions and analysis as required to assist the interpreting physician
- Follows proper handling, administration, and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals according to federal regulations
- Performs required Quality Control testing on imaging equipment
- Assists in the training of nuclear medicine students
* Position includes on-call and occasional weekends
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Successful completion of an approved Nuclear Med American Registry of Nuclear Medicine (CNMT) or, ARRT (NM) or registry eligible nuclear medicine program
Certification/License:
Massachusetts State License; renewed bi-annually
Basic Life Support (BLS); renewed bi-annually.
