Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides administrative oversight for the nuclear medical technology department of a hospital. Reviews, develops and implements technical policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, quality and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Being a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist supervises nuclear medicine technologists, and may perform the functions of a technologist as needed. Ensures proper usage, maintenance and updates of medical equipment. Additionally, Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification. Typically requires Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Certification. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Job Summary:

    The Nuclear Medicine Tech applies the practice of nuclear medicine imaging through the safe and effective use of radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear medicine equipment.

    Nuclear Medicine Tech - Southside Medical Center, Petersburg, VA - PRN, On-Call Required

    Essential Functions: 

    • Oversees the procurement, preparation, quality control, calculation, identification, documentation, administration, disposal, storage, and safe handling of all radioactive materials.
    • Responsible for scheduling exams and reviewing images to determine diagnostic quality.
    • Starts and maintains intravenous (IV) access and administers medications as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.

    Education:

    • Associate's from an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) accredited institute (preferred) 


    Licensure/Certification:

    • Certification and Registration with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) (required)
    • State Licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (required)

    • 1 year of experience practicing Nuclear Medicine experience (preferred)
