Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides administrative oversight for the nuclear medical technology department of a hospital. Reviews, develops and implements technical policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, quality and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Being a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist supervises nuclear medicine technologists, and may perform the functions of a technologist as needed. Ensures proper usage, maintenance and updates of medical equipment. Additionally, Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification. Typically requires Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Certification. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     GENERAL OVERVIEW:
    This job performs various nuclear imaging procedures and therapies in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization. 

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results. (50%)
    • Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. (25%)
    • Orders, prepares, administers, stores and disposes of radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols and applicable regulations/standards. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. (15%)
    • Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. (10%)
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Minimum

    • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of associate’s degree
    • Nuclear Certification and Registration - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification is required within 12 months of hire. – Employees in a Nuclear Medicine role (prior to July 1, 2022) who do not have a NM certification are not required to obtain them; employees in a NM role with existing NM certification are required to maintain active certifications.  Employees hired, or transferred into the NM role after July 1, 2022, are also required to maintain active certifications.
    • CPR Certification.

    Preferred

    • Prior nuclear medicine experience.
