Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides administrative oversight for the nuclear medical technology department of a hospital. Reviews, develops and implements technical policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, quality and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Being a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist supervises nuclear medicine technologists, and may perform the functions of a technologist as needed. Ensures proper usage, maintenance and updates of medical equipment. Additionally, Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification. Typically requires Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Certification. Typically reports to a director. Job Summary:
The Nuclear Medicine (NM) Technologist performs quality diagnostic and therapeutic NM procedures on all patient populations of the hospital. NM procedures are performed in the NM section of the Radiology Department. This position must be well versed in the principles of radiation safety so that radioisotopes are prepared and administered in a safe manner. The NM tech must also be proficient in using PACS and teleradiology and possess good communication skills to effectively interact with physician, patients and coworkers.
This position may also perform other related tasks such as assisting and transporting patients, performing data entry for exam tracking and dose management, managing supplies and other departmental duties as assigned.
