Chief Nurse Anesthetist manages and schedules Nurse Anesthetists who plan, arrange and secure necessary anesthesia equipment. Aids Anesthesiologist in organizing courses of instruction for students, and partakes in resulting programs and demonstrations. Being a Chief Nurse Anesthetist prepares reports and compiles data dealing with specific anesthesia, drugs and techniques, and patients' reactions to them. Requires a master's degree. Additionally, Chief Nurse Anesthetist requires Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Chief Nurse Anesthetist typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Chief Nurse Anesthetist typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Our anesthesia department comprises 14 full time CRNAs and 3 Anesthesiologists, collectively covering 12 sites of service. Notably, call duties are not in-house, as CRNAs rotate through the call schedule.

     

    The range of cases encountered here is diverse, encompassing Orthopedic (General and Total Joints), Spine, General Surgery (across a wide spectrum), Gastrointestinal/Endoscopic procedures, GYN surgery, Urology, Pain Management, and Ophthalmology.

     

    Compensation & Benefits: Base salary of $214,000 per year, along with a sign-on bonus. This compensation structure operates on a 1099 basis, in exchange for 45 weeks of anesthesia coverage. Providers enjoy 35 days off annually, in addition to facility holidays, and are covered by comprehensive malpractice insurance.

     

    Requirements:

    • Graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program.
    • Current licensure as a registered nurse in Louisiana
    • Certification as a Nurse Anesthetist by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists
    • Completion of any additional state-specific requirements for licensure or certification.
    • Continuing education to maintain licensure and certification.
