  • JOB SUMMARY
    A leading membership-based agricultural organization is seeking a Chief Operating Officer. The COO will possess strong leadership skills and the ability to approach the business of the organization with a creative point of view. The COO will lead a team of high-performing professionals to be efficient, productive, and effective. The ideal candidate will have extensive industry experience, preferably having worked their way up to an executive role. It is believed that this trajectory helps an individual develop a unique mix of business and management expertise, plus proficiency with the practices, policies, and procedures. The COO performs those day-to-day duties relating to the management of administration, coordination, and planning necessary to carry out the programs and meet the goals of organization.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS
    Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the activities of the organization. These duties and responsibilities include, in addition to those assigned by the president:
    • Develops and executes long-term strategies to advance the organizations mission
    • Works to address the challenges and opportunities within the agricultural industry
    • Provide effective leadership to staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive organization
    • Oversee hiring, training and performance evaluations of the organization, people, and processes
    • Supervises the organization division directors
    • Analyzes current operating procedures to identify ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness
    • Evaluates existing and proposed programs for effectiveness and relevance
    • Advises on, develops and maintains an organizational strategy as set by the president and Board
    • Assists the president and treasurer in developing an annual budget
    • Build and maintain trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders, including farmers, industry partners, government agencies, community organizations and sponsors
    • Oversees the business development and direction of the organizational affiliates
    • Assists in other duties as assigned

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • 7-10 years or more of experience in executive leadership roles
    • Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
    • Understanding of advanced business planning and regulatory issues
    • Solid grasp of data analysis, performance metrics, and financial management
    • Ability to diagnose problems quickly and foresee potential issues
    • Extensive experience working with Board of Directors

    PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • Advocacy and Outreach experience
    • Extensive Strategy and Planning experience
    • Crisis Management and Communication Specialty
    • California Agriculture business experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Ag Business, Business Administration, or related discipline

    Compensation:

    This position offers a competitive salary ($225-275k) depending on experience and qualifications.  In addition:
