Chief Pilot (Jet Fleet) provides leadership and management of pilots, schedules, and records to maintain efficient and safe flight operations, comply with all FAA regulations, and deliver operational performance on company goals. Maintains the required FAA records and documentation for certifications, crews, flight times, aircraft, and activity. Being a Chief Pilot (Jet Fleet) keeps informed about current aviation developments and regulations that impact flight operations. Coordinates pilot training and development plans to ensure all are ready for flight duty. Additionally, Chief Pilot (Jet Fleet) uses the Safety Management System (SMS) to identify, mitigate, and manage risk in operations. May require a bachelor's degree. Requires Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate. Requires FAA Commercial Pilot's License. Typically reports to a director or head of a unit/department. The Chief Pilot (Jet Fleet) typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Chief Pilot (Jet Fleet) typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Job Description:

    Under general direction, the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor provides leadership and guidance for flight instructors; serves as the Instructor of Record for assigned flight training courses; ensures compliance with the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) in the training of students and the supervision of flight instructors. This position requires the participant to fly 240 hours per year (20 hours per month minimum.)

    Essential Functions

    • Employee will demonstrate TSTC Core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students and members of the community.
    • Assists the Chief Pilot with certification of training records, graduation certificates, stage and final test reports, and student recommendations; conducts or assigns each stage and/or final test given to students; assigns and reports grades for all flight courses. Records and manages data in an electronic database (currently Paperless 141).
    • Conducts and assists the Chief Pilot with annual recurrent proficiency checks in accordance to FARs; ensures compliance with FARs.
    • Assists the supervision of flight training activities and flight instructors; monitors flight instructor performance and makes recommendations; helps prepare reports to the Chief Pilot, Department Chair and the Pilot Training Business Manager.
    • Coordinates with scheduling/dispatch activities related to scheduling of students, instructors, and aircraft for flight training; monitors overall student progress; ensures availability to flight students desiring advice or consultation.
    • Maintains currency with regulatory and procedural changes in the flight training environment; reviews and updates all aspects of the flight training program; ensures training materials are current and in stock.
    • Assists the Chief Pilot with staff meetings; meets with prospective students and parents; maintains a cooperative and communicative attitude with college/airport officials and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) personnel; is available to teach academics as needed.
    • Travels, as required.
    • Ensures compliance with all relevant Federal Aviation Regulations and Operations Specifications.
    • Develops and implements a flight safety management system to mitigate risk.
    • Establishes an environment of candor, feedback, and open communication to resolve personnel, workflow and safety issues.

    Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

    • Associate's Degree Required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
    • Must have experience and eligibility for designation as assistant chief instructor under FAR Part 141.36.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, people and tasks.
    • Ability to leverage technology to increase efficient operations.
    • Must embrace a culture of aviation safety and professionalism.
    • Must be eligible to drive a State vehicle.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and instructor certification appropriate to the position sought.
    • Knowledge of various flight instruction instrumentation and equipment.
    • Interpersonal/human relations skills.
    • Supervisory skills.
    • Verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to instruct/teach/tutor.
    • Ability to approach problems/decisions analytically and methodically.
    • Ability to perform under stressful circumstances.
    • Ability to push, pull, bend, lift, and carry objects including the repositioning of fixed wing aircraft using tow bar or tug.
    • Attentiveness to detail.
    • FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate (ATP preferred)
    • Current FAA Flight Instructor Certificate with fixed wing and instrument instructor ratings
    • FAA 2nd class medical or Basic Med Privileges per 14 CFR Part 68
    • The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required on a daily basis to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and frequently access, input, and retrieve information from manuals, a computer or other office productivity devices. Other physical demands are defined by the FAA 2nd class medical or Basic Med Privileges per 14 CFR Part 68.
