Chief Radiologic Technologist oversees radiologic services, maintains technical aspects of radiologic safety and evaluates accuracy and quality of X-rays. Schedules work assignments and coordinates requests for radiologic services. Being a Chief Radiologic Technologist recommends new equipment, equipment modification, and crucial construction within the department. May perform duties of radiologic technologist as needed. Additionally, Chief Radiologic Technologist requires an associate degree in radiology. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - (R). Typically requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager or director. The Chief Radiologic Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Radiologic Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Uptown is a joint venture surgical hospital between Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH), United Surgical Partners International (USPI), and local physicians. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center- Uptown provides a wide range of medical and surgical services for to the greater North Texas area across 8 ORs, 24 private Inpatient rooms, a full-service ED. The hospital specializes in both inpatient and outpatient procedures in Orthopedics, Joint Replacement, Spine, General, Bariatrics, Surgical Oncology, ENT, Reconstructive Surgery, and other surgical specialties.

    Job Duties

    • Perform the described duties in the primary work area and demonstrate competency in the following: Orthopedic Radiology, Pediatric Radiology, Operating Room Radiology,  
    • Perform a variety of technical tasks involved in operating x ray equipment to make radiographs of designated portions of the body as specified by physician; adjust equipment for proper exposure, voltage and current in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures.
    • Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies, instruments and equipment; explain x ray procedures to patients; position patients for each anatomical view specified using immobilization and protective devices as required; report any changes in patient condition to attending medical staff.
    • Monitor accessory equipment and assist attending physician with fluoroscopic examinations and special radiographic studies.
    • Record amount and type of film exposed; label film with identifying information; sort as required.
    • Consult with lead x-ray tech and radiologist to ensure compliance with established standards of quality.
    • Process film in accordance with standardized procedures and maintain assigned work area in clean and orderly condition.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Graduate of an accredited program in Radiological Technology
    • AART Registered and CPR Current
    • Knowledgeable of local, state, federal and Joint Commission Regulations
    • Must possess independent decision making skills
    • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects
    • Excellent communication skills with the staff, physicians, patients and families
    • Must be able to communicate verbally and non-verbally in a professional way
