Chief Radiologic Technologist oversees radiologic services, maintains technical aspects of radiologic safety and evaluates accuracy and quality of X-rays. Schedules work assignments and coordinates requests for radiologic services. Being a Chief Radiologic Technologist recommends new equipment, equipment modification, and crucial construction within the department. May perform duties of radiologic technologist as needed. Additionally, Chief Radiologic Technologist requires an associate degree in radiology. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - (R). Typically requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager or director. The Chief Radiologic Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Radiologic Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Summary

    Performs radiologic procedures to assist in the diagnosis of disease and injuries and to evaluate the technical quality of radiographs. Provides procedural-related patient care and education. Maintains records and documentation for procedures.

    Responsibilities

    • Interprets patient’s histories and physician instructions 
    • Assesses patient’s condition prior to administering a contrast media or performing the radiographic procedure. 
    • Explains and prepares patients for roentgenographic and/or fluoroscopic examination. 
    • Determines proper technique and selects exposure factors, exposes and develops film. 
    • Practices radiation protection procedures according to ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) for patients, self, and others. Practices medical and surgical aseptic techniques. 
    • Perform diagnostic radiograph procedures through the application of ionizing radiation to produce images on film. 
    • Administers oral contrast media and performs successful injection of contrast media. o Assist radiologist during fluoroscopy exams. 
    • Documents patient assessment/history related to procedures. 
    • Performs and documents equipment quality control according to protocols: recognizes and reports malfunctions or variations to supervisor as needed.  
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Required 

    • Registration with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography. 
    • State of Nevada license in Radiography. 
    • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
