  • The City of Kinmundy, Illinois is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to fill the position of Chief of Police with the City of Kinmundy Police Department. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, have no felony convictions and a valid driver's license. Current certified Law Enforcement Officers in the State of Illinois or another state that have the ability to become laterally certified in Illinois are preferred.

    The City of Kinmundy is a small, rural community located in South Central Illinois in Marion County.

    • Patrols the City to preserve law and order, prevents and discovers the commission of crime, and enforces traffic and other laws and ordinances.
    • Answers calls and investigates complaints, disturbances, and reported criminal activities; answers calls involving fires, automobile accidents, robberies and related misdemeanors and felonies.
    • At crime scenes, gathers evidence, locates and interviews witnesses, makes arrests; prepares investigative data and case information for prosecution.
    • Investigates accidents; provides first aid to injured persons; takes safeguards to prevent further accidents; interviews principals and witnesses; takes written statements; takes necessary preventive or corrective measures.
    • Cooperates in the prosecution of criminal offenders through court testimony, grand jury testimony, and at coroner's inquests.
    • Performs traffic control duties; operates radar traffic control unit; apprehends violators and issues traffic tickets; directs traffic at intersections; issues parking tickets.
    • Responsible for safe utilization of Police Department vehicles and property.
    • Responsible for safety of the general public, self, and fellow workers.
    • Responsibility associated with the handling and maintenance of confidential information.
    • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
    • The ability to work a variety of shifts including some nights and alternating weekends is required
    • Applicants who have successfully completed the Basic Police Academy and are certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board to work as a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Illinois will be given preference.
