Directs the strategic design, acquisition, management, and implementation of an enterprise-wide technology infrastructure. Being a Chief Technology Officer monitors and analyzes technology and trends that could improve the company's products and performance. Establishes technology standards and communicates technical information to the organization. Additionally, Chief Technology Officer typically requires an advanced degree in Computer Science or Engineering. Typically reports to Chief Information Officer or Chief Executive Officer. The Chief Technology Officer manages a business unit, division, or corporate function with major organizational impact. Establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives for the given major function or line of business.     The City of Des Moines' Residency Requirement is in effect for this position. Applicant must be a resident of the City of Des Moines within seven (7) months of the appointment date and maintain residency within the City of Des Moines while employed in this position. 
    • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with specialization in business or public administration, information technology, data management or appropriately related field.
    • Five years of progressively responsible knowledge of modern hardware and software technology and experience in managing a comprehensive information technology department in a complex government or corporate entity.
    • Knowledge of modern communication systems including cellular, digital, video, etc. and the infrastructure required to support such systems.
    • Knowledge of principles and practices of public administration, including budgeting, and cost accounting systems.
    • Knowledge of preparatory and continuing education required to ensure IT staff competencies.
    • Experience with ERP software applications. The City currently utilizes Tyler Technologies.
    • Must possess or be able to obtain a driver’s license issued by the State of Iowa.
    • Must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen.
