    Job Summary

    Reporting directly to the chief executive officer, the chief technology officer (CTO) will lead IT and digital planning efforts to achieve business goals by fostering innovation, prioritizing IT and digital initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future IT systems across the enterprise. The CTO will be responsible for establishing and leading the technology and digital vision, strategies, and growth plans within Sanford Health through expanding existing relationships, anticipating current and future needs of the organization, developing new business opportunities, and cultivating partner relationships. Serving as Sanford Health’s top technology architect, he or she will leverage technology by ensuring that business priorities are achieved using creative and innovative thinking. Reporting to the CTO will be the chief information officer and chief digital officer. The CTO will serve as a member of the top management decision-making group for the organization, accountable for setting the strategic direction, leading efforts to achieve organizational commitments, and determine organizational priorities. Overseeing and leading information technology, digital, data / analytics, cybersecurity teams.

    Creating and implementing technology and digital strategies and aligning Sanford's technology and digital resources with the organization's short- and long-term goals.

    Conducting research to remain up-to-date and knowledgeable regarding industry trends and emerging strategic technologies in anticipation of new processes and system alterations.

    Analyzing and improving upon technology and digital standards across the organization to maintain a strategic advantage.

    Overseeing the digital strategy team for effective incorporation of evolving digital tools and partnering with other senior leaders to identify and implement opportunities for digital transformation.

    Enabling organizational innovation through technology and carrying out the digital and technological strategy.

    Championing behavior that inspires cohesiveness and moving the organization to reach a shared vision.

    Providing perspective on the evolution and impact of major technologies.

    Communicating with employees, stakeholders, and customers to ensure technologies are meeting defined use cases and ROI promises, as well as being able to evolve to meet new priority use cases and increase ROI impact.

    Leading in a transparent and approachable manner.

    Leading multiple high-risk, high-cost projects that will engage a wide range of stakeholders.

    Promoting, in a positive manner, the philosophy, mission, and values of the health system throughout its regions and with all affiliated organizations.

    Recruiting, hiring, and terminating direct reports, ensuring consistency with system policies.

    Holding direct reports accountable for achieving plans and performance targets, working with them to identify and resolve issues and problems affecting their areas, and providing them with counsel, guidance, and direction as appropriate; facilitating the involvement of staff and others with the required skills and expertise as needed.

    Ensuring that all technology and digital practices adhere to regulatory standards.

    Communicating with all levels of the organization to provide optimal support of information technology clients and to achieve the highest customer satisfaction consistent with service.

    Creatively providing resolution to technical problems in a cost-effective manner.

    Overseeing data analytics, to include leading efforts to drive automation and the use of augmented and artificial intelligence platforms.

    Ensuring scalable and flexible enterprise-wide application, data, and infrastructure architecture overseeing relationships with contractors and service providers.

    Promoting a climate of support for the organization's employees and encouraging the professional growth and development of its leaders.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, computer science, business administration, health care administration, or a related field. Master’s degree in a related field preferred.

    A minimum of ten years’ experience leading IT operations and at least five years in a senior leadership role, preferably in healthcare, are required.

    A senior executive with clinical experience is preferred for this role with a track record of effectively communicating with clinical partners across a large, complex, multi-geographic organization.
