Chief Ultrasound Technologist oversees Ultrasound Technologists and maintains the technical aspects of ultrasound services. Acts as a liaison between technologists, physicians and area support staff. Being a Chief Ultrasound Technologist suggests equipment modification and evaluates accuracy and quality of ultrasound images. May perform duties of Ultrasound Technologist as needed. Additionally, Chief Ultrasound Technologist requires an associate degree in ultrasound technology. Requires Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential. Typically requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a senior manager or director. The Chief Ultrasound Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Job Summary: To perform various ultrasound procedures, including education and preparation of the patient and operation of ultrasound equipment. To perform general and vascular ultrasound procedures, as well as portable ultrasound exams in the operating room or special care areas within the hospital and at outpatient centers as needed.
Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound technology program. Registered in both General and Vascular Sonography by ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI. On-going participation in continuing education. Considerable skill in performing various ultrasound studies, i.e., abdominal, OB, GYN in addition to vascular. Ability to accept new responsibilities as new equipment/examinations are introduced. Current BLS certification required.
