Chief Ultrasound Technologist oversees Ultrasound Technologists and maintains the technical aspects of ultrasound services. Acts as a liaison between technologists, physicians and area support staff. Being a Chief Ultrasound Technologist suggests equipment modification and evaluates accuracy and quality of ultrasound images. May perform duties of Ultrasound Technologist as needed. Additionally, Chief Ultrasound Technologist requires an associate degree in ultrasound technology. Requires Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential. Typically requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a senior manager or director. The Chief Ultrasound Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Ultrasound Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. procedures at a technical level requiring no supervision. Performs a variety of
technical and imaging procedures that require independent judgment. Assumes
responsibility for patient safety and image quality protocols. Assist
Radiologists in special procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & LICENSURE
Graduate of Ultrasound program, which is
accredited by the Joint Review Committee for Radiology Technology Education
(JRCRTE). Valid State Licensure

Completion of accredited Ultrasound
program JACHO standards Performing all Ultrasound procedures
PRINCIPLE TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform Ultrasound procedures as
ordered, including biopsies Utilize portable xray equipment as
needed. Perform Ultrasounds on inpatients,
outpatients, and ER patients Transport patients Process films Forward films to Radiologist and discuss
findings with ER physician, if needed Assist with peer group interviews Work you share of overtime when heavy
workload arises Order and stock supplies Handle equipment problems by
investigation, calling repair service, notifying Tech Supervisor or Manager Assist coworkers with transport and
procedures Be abreast of all P.I. projects and
areas routinely monitored Assist Tech Supervisor and Manager with
projects when needed Attend department meetings, hospital
in-services Assists in departmental orientation to
new employees Follow IMC Standards of Performance,
Hospital Goals, Department Goals Responsible for scheduling and cost of
continuing education
