    Summary/Objective of Position:

    The Chief of Staff is a key member of the President's Cabinet (senior leadership team) and
    provides leadership and operational oversight to the Office of the President in fulfilling the College's mission and goals. The incumbent will be an individual with a desire to be the best in their craft, possessing a commitment to integrity and an ability to effectively support the President on a wide range of strategic issues.

    Handles matters of policy and institutional importance on behalf of the executive. Supports and sustains a culture of service, professionalism and continuous improvement in the executive's organizational units. Actively participates in building the Diné College philosophy by engaging in communicative, collaborative, and respectful relationships with those serving in leadership roles at Diné College.

    * Provides leadership and operational oversight for the Office of the President, conveying an atmosphere of excellence and distinction, in support of the College's mission, vision, and goals.
    * Counsels the President, provides a sounding board, advice on sensitive matters, and ensures the President has all the information necessary to make informed decisions. Provides excellent judgment, diplomacy, and understanding of college issues to support the President.
    * Serves as liaison between the President and the College to ensure a coordinated approach to initiatives across campus.
    * Builds and nurtures relationships to serve as a resource for the President and point of contact as designated for key constituents to resolve complex issues and help move forward strategic priorities.
    * Collaborates with the Marketing & Communications department in the creation of executive-level communications including talks, speeches, reports, and presentations that appropriately reflect the President's voice, tone, and goals.
    * Assists the President with correspondence dealing with issues and subject matter in ways that sometimes requires considerable sensitivity, discretion, judgment or negotiation.
    * Represents the President and the college in various civic, community and professional organizations at the local, state, and national level.
    * Works to advance a wide range of initiatives, programs, projects, events for the President of in Support of Institutional Priorities and College functions.
    * Ensures the accurate, proper, and timely flow of information to and from the Office of the President in support of recurring and special projects.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education & Experience


    Minimum:

    •Master's Degree plus two years of experience at the executive leadership level.

    •Strong knowledge of College structure, policies and practices.

    Preferred:

    Doctoral Degree preferred.

    Knowledge:

    •Proven expertise in planning and executing operational plans, managing projects and/or programs, budgeting and cost control.
    •Understanding of the mission, role and function of higher education in general, and of community colleges in particular.
    •General understanding of the external environment and how it affects academia in general and Diné College in particular, including political, legal, environmental, educational, financial and social influences.
    •Proven ability to work independent of direct supervision and take initiative without specific instructions.
    •Ability to incorporate Diné leadership values and strategies in ensuring objectives and goals are met.
    •Knowledge of alternative fundraising programs, methods, and techniques.
    •Ability to deal with constantly changing demands, frequent interruptions, and scheduling changes while remaining organized and seeing projects through to completion.


    •In-depth knowledge and expertise in all aspects of own and related areas of the College, and pertinent interdependencies.

    •Ability to partner with others across the College and externally to exchange information, collaborate on projects, share resources, etc.

    •Ability to influence others of the benefits/importance of an idea or plan of action and to gain their support or commitment.

    •Strong negotiation skills and ability to reach mutual points of agreement and benefit among peers and colleagues.

    Skills:

    •Strong managerial and team building skills, and demonstrated ability to motivate and
    empower direct and indirect reports to achieve area priorities.
    •Excellent project management skills, attention to detail, and collaboration with senior individuals from throughout the College.
    •Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills along with strong organizational skills.
    • Demonstrated experience exercising judgment, project planning and goal accomplishment; wide degree of professional maturity and discretion expected.
    •Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, student body, alumni and community.


    Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory.

    Abilities:

    Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
    Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
    Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    Ability to analyze and solve problems.
    Ability to create, compose, and edit correspondence and other written materials.
    Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
    Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgements.

    Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

    Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment: to include but not limited to the use of a personal computer, viewing a monitor, enter and retrieve data: use of a printer; malfunction copier (copy, email, fax, scanning); filing documents and information; ability to attend and participate in meetings and training's; ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to internal and external customers via multimedia (email, fax, phone, letter, etc.); moderate physical activity; and very limited exposure to physical risk but may require some extended periods of sitting, standing or walking. Ability to maintain confidentially. Work environment is fast pace with timelines. Some in state and out of state travel is may be required.

    Other Requirement(s):

    Must have and maintain a valid state issued driver's license and successfully pass a background check. Other licensing may be required depending on position and/or area of assignment.
