Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
The Chief Nursing Officer, in collaboration with the CEO and the Governing Board, is responsible for leading day-to-day operations to facilitate organizational success related to clinical strategic goals and objectives in accordance with sound general management principles, regulatory and accreditation standards, and the facility mission, vision and values. Administrative responsibilities include internal and external physician marketing, cost awareness, staffing, scheduling, and the overall function of Clinical Services. CNO serves as ex-officio on Medical Executive Committee and Governing Board. Plans, coordinates and directs nursing care and all related activities of the Nursing Service Department in compliance with local, state, federal regulatory requirements and standards established by facility accrediting body. Responsible for overseeing Risk Management, Infection Control, Employee Health, Performance Improvement, Case Management, Surgical Services, Education, Environmental Services, Food and Nutrition Services, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology and Education. Develops and implements hospital policies and procedures and supports the hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values in providing Quality Patient Care. In conjunction with the CEO, the CNO shall develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the implementation of policies and procedures, which assure that cost effective, safe and high quality care is implemented. The CNO will market clinical services in a manner which is accurate and reflects the hospitals’ ability to provide all marketed clinical services. The CNO shall assist in the development and implementation of short and long-range operational and capital budgets related to clinical services to ensure resources to adequately maintain clinical operations within the facility.

Patient Population:
The patient population served by South Texas Spine & Surgical Hospital is a minimum of 12 years and/or of adult stature to geriatric patients requiring or seeking pain and/or surgical intervention.
Physical Requirements:
May be expected to lift to 10- 20 pounds occasionally. Work is of light demand; walking, standing and sitting most of the time while on duty. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of office equipment is essential to performing assigned duties. Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit.
Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirements of the job.

Job Category I. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.
