Manatee Children’s Services is now hiring Residential Advocates in our Emergency Shelter and Group Homes
MUST HAVE CLEAN CRIMINAL HISTORY and Valid Florida Driver's License with good driving record.
General Statement of Duties: Care of clients in the Emergency Shelter, preparing meals, laundering of clothes, client transportation, house cleaning, and light maintenance. Promote health and safety of children. Guide children regarding behavior; provide nurturing, comfort, and support. Responsible for the care of children in emergency shelter and residential group home.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct as a role model for the clients and their families.
- Maintain confidentiality of the child in accordance with DCF, MCS, and HIPAA policies.
- Handle the admittance and discharge process of children according to policies as directed by the Residential Director.
- Prepare meals according to menus established or child’s special needs.
- Complete tasks on the Daily Schedule such as laundry, house cleaning and light maintenance.
- Monitor and report necessary domestic repairs and replacements.
- Administer prescribed and over-the-counter medications per MCS policy; perform first aid, and promote health and safety of children.
- Assist children with homework.
- Supervise and arrange activities to ensure proper mental, physical, social and spiritual development.
- Process paperwork regarding facility and childcare according to DCF and MCS requirements. To include forms, various reports and maintain communication logs.
- Check MCS email daily and respond accordingly.
- Transport residents to school, activities, and medical appointments safely.
- Complete mileage logs.
- Ensure that all safety measures are followed such as; proper care and safe handling of all agency assets including vehicles, and following through with all maintenance as recommended by the Facilities Manager.
- Perform shopping and purchasing of fuel, food, clothing, etc. in accordance to MCS guidelines, including prior approval of Residential Director and completing required forms and logs.
- Attend required in-service trainings and other staff/program meetings as schedule.
- Maintain personal annual training requirements and report log to Human Resources.
- Respond to crises in a manner that serves to promote physical and emotional safety and well-being.
- Perform other duties/tasks that may be assigned.
- Maintain a valid Florida driver’s license at all times and will notify the supervisor immediately when the license becomes invalid. Must be eligible for insurance coverage through an agency provider.
Typical Physical Demands:
- Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Ability to frequently move files weighing up to 20 pounds throughout the office space.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. The position is mostly standing and employees must be able to physically perform the escalation matrix as defined in accordance with NAPPI procedures when required in a physically confrontational situation.
- Ability to perform CPR and First aid.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and transport children.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
- Perform basic skills in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Ability to operate the kitchen and household appliances.
- Ability to position self to stoop, kneels, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to remain awake and alert at all times.
- Ability to frequently communicate with employees/customers/clients; and must be able to exchange accurate information by perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral and written information.
- Ability to face a significant amount of emotional stress which can cause related physical stress.
Typical Working Conditions:
Work is primarily conducted at the emergency shelter and group homes. Noise level varies from moderate to loud.
Educational/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency. Two years of paid or volunteer experience working with families and children.
TRAINING
Attend a minimum of 40 hours of training each year. Supervisor may recommend additional training to improve skills in employee’s particular field. Maintain current certification in NAPPI Conflict Management and CPR/First Aid.
