Assistant Director
The position is full-time (40 hours), Monday-Friday, between the hours of 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Hours will vary based on center staffing needs. Occasional evening or weekend availability for continuing education.
This position serves as an assistant to the Director for Perry Preschool & Child Care (PPCC). They work collaboratively with the Director, lead teachers, assistant teacher, family members, and other staff to achieve positive outcomes for children of all abilities. The Assistant Director will ultimately be evaluated on a combination of skills, dispositions, and behaviors, some of which are related to the specific service area of this position and others that represent general expectations of all Perry
Preschool & Child Care employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Operations:
- Model Perry Preschool & Child Care’s (PPCC) commitment to courteous, professional service to internal and external customers—developing trust and working relationships with staff, families, children, and others in the community.
- Provides assistance to the Director by managing employees; scheduling classroom coverage, time off, staff “shout outs”, and recruitment and retention strategies.
- Implement training for current and new employees, to ensure all new and existing employees meet licensing and Paths to QUALITY requirements with the state of Indiana
- Uses observations of program operations to report to the Director and improve program policies, handbooks, and procedures; creates policies and procedures and updates as needed.
- Monitor and fulfill all program and reporting requirements of the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) voucher program.
- Assists the Director as the Secondary Determining Official for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) by maintaining required documentation, determining eligibility, and ensuring that all CACFP procedures are maintained by all staff.
Child Growth and Development:
- Uses knowledge of the principles of child growth and development to work with children and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provides emotional support through establishing a positive climate, being aware of and responsive to children, and encouraging child expression and autonomy.
- Addresses challenging behaviors by observing to determine possible causes of the behavior, implementing preventive measures, teaching the child new social and communication skills, and partnering with families to support the child at home.
- Creates partnerships with families to establish positive interaction patterns in the program, school, and home.
Learning Environment:
- Ensure classroom arrangement, materials, and displays are organized and conducive to children’s learning.
Program Implementations
- Ensure the program is providing developmentally and linguistically appropriate experiences appropriate to age, language and culture of children served.
- Know and understand PPCC School Readiness Goals and strive to support staff and children achieve them.
- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment, ensuring full supervision of children at all times, in accordance with Indiana Child Care licensing and Indiana Paths to
QUALITY requirements.
- Conduct daily health/safety monitoring of the indoor and (as requested) outdoor environment.
- Follow all health and hygiene practices, including hand-washing, sanitizing, and universal precautions.
- Supervise all classroom field trips and outdoor activities.
- Maintain required documentation of activities, including child and family information, assessment data, volunteer logs, etc.
- Provide positive guidance and discipline supporting children as they acquire readiness skills for kindergarten and beyond.
- Implement Individual Family Services Plans (IFSPs) for children with disabilities.
- Ensure all children are provided with a consistent classroom routine.
- Supervise and eat nutritionally prepared meals and/or snacks with the children as a curriculum activity, to model good nutrition and proper social skills for children.
- Model appropriate classroom practices.
Family Partnerships:
- Establish positive and productive relationships with families focusing on building trust and rapport.
- Be responsive to parent questions and concerns.
- Answer phone, check email, and return all messages within 1 business day.
- Give tours of building to new families
- Post on program Facebook page at least monthly and more frequently with upcoming events and other announcements
- Create and foster effective, lasting relationships with community and business partners/vendors.
- Participate in community events and opportunities as requested.
- Schedule and complete two parent conferences each year focusing on program improvement.
- Encourage and engage family members to serve as classroom volunteers as appropriate.
- Maintain regular contact with parents and complete appropriate documentation.
Record Keeping and Recording:
- Gather and maintain individual, family, and classroom data for documentation, ongoing assessment, evaluation, and recording keeping for successful individual and program planning.
- Create and submit requisitions for purchases to the Director or to the Board of
Directors.
- Collect all required monthly documents for the CACFP and provide them to th Director.
- Respond to parent financial questions.
- Gather materials for new and current grants.
- Continuously evaluate organizational performance and potential cost reduction by analyzing and interpreting external and internal business and financial data and trends.
Job Requirements:
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential OR AA/AS in Early Childhood Education
- Successful background check
- Successfully completes and stays up-to-date on Basic First Aid and CPR certification.
- Attends all workshops and meetings as deemed necessary by the Director.
- Attends all required staff and parent meetings and activities.
- Participates in ongoing training to maintain required hours for Indiana licensing and Paths to QUALITY standards.
- Responsible for understanding Indiana child care licensing regulations and Indiana Paths to QUALITY standards.
Professional Growth and Collaboration:
- Participate in ongoing reflective coaching and self-assessment.
- Collaborate with all staff in the center.
- Share pertinent information with the Director, Food Service Coordinator, and staff as needed, to meet the needs of individual children and families.
- Participate in case conferences as appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.
- Knowledge of universal precautions and the prevention of contamination.
- Ability to organize time efficiently and accept responsibility with limited supervision.
- Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

- Demonstrated computer literacy skills and internet navigation.

Physical Requirements:

Work Environment:
- Work is generally performed in a noisy environment.
- Standard office equipment generally used includes: telephone, personal computer (monitor, keyboard, and mouse) or Tablet, Printer, Calculator
