General Function
The assistant lead teacher is responsible for assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of all group activities. The assistant lead teacher is responsible for ensuring children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental development in the program.
Qualifications / Skills
The qualifications for this position are outlined in the Department of Human Services of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Code Book for the Child Day Care Centers and include:
· A high school diploma or general educational development certification (G.E.D.); a minimum of fifteen (15) credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field and one (1) year work experience related to the care and development of children or a high school diploma or general educational development certification and three (3) years’ work experience related to the care and development of children.
· Must have child abuse, criminal record and FBI Fingerprint clearances
· Must have a physical every two years and a negative TB test upon hiring.
· General knowledge of nutrition and health & must be certified in Pediatric First Aid, CPR/AED
· Increased understanding of young child growth and development
· Ability to apply an understanding of developmental levels to activities
· Self-assurance in holding and caring for babies
· Ability to maintain a safe, clean, and appropriate environment
· General knowledge of nutrition, health, and first aid
· Willingness to accept supervision and willingness to increase understanding and knowledge through workshops and study.

Responsibilities and Principal Activities
In harmony with the Mission, Established Policies, Strategic Objectives and Goals of the Buhl Club, and the requirements of the Department of Human Services of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Assistant Day Care Lead teacher is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Service Skills
· Assist lead teacher and director in providing a quality curriculum in the day care program that takes into consideration the needs of each child and the goals and objectives of the Department of Human Services of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Buhl Club Child Development Center.
· Demonstrate verbally and by role model a sound knowledge of good teaching practices and of child growth and development.
· Be responsible for the care, safety, and well-being of the children at all times.
· Assist the lead teacher with the weekly group planning and implementation.
· Coordinate daily activities and supervise aides in the absence of the lead teacher.
· Daily record-keeping and adherence to all requirements.
· Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as required by the Child Care Director
· Direct or assist in the daily maintenance of the conferences or parent-child events related to the program.
· Continue professional development through community involvement, reading, and further education.
· Document attendance, medication log, and accident reports for each child in compliance with state licensing requirements
· All other tasks as assigned by designate.
