Evaluates programs and recommends changes to improve care for childhood hospitalizations or disabilities. Being a Child Life Program Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Child Life Program Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Qualifications

    Basic Purpose of the job:

    The Coordinator for the Child Life Program is responsible for development, implementing, coordinating and managing the Child Life program. Using counseling techniques such as individual and family talk therapy, therapeutic recreational activities, contributes to quality patient care by assessing, educating, preparing and supporting pediatric patients and their families during hospitalization. The child life specialist will collaborate among the multidisciplinary team to support positive coping for patients and families throughout the health care experience. Knowledge of medical terminology.

     

    Job Requirements:

    • Bachelors Degree in Child Life, Child Development or equivalent required. Master's preferred and required within 3 years. Completion of child life internship required.
    • Minimum of two years experience in a Child Life profession.
    • Must be certified by the Child Life Certifying Commission of the Child Life Council upon hire. AHA or ARC BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider card showing completion of cognitive and skills evaluation in accordance with the curriculum of AHA BLS (CPR & AED) program.
    • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the requirements of this position.
