  • Summary:
    The Assistant Child Development Director will work with the Vice President of the Child Development and Management Team to provide leadership in planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating the program systems. The Assistant Director assists the Vice President in operating the program following the Office of Head Start policies, procedures, and state licensing standards to provide an educational, nurturing, and safe learning environment for children, staff, and parents. The Assistant Director will oversee the delivery of quality programs and activities focused on school readiness.
    Essential Responsibilities:
    • Supervises the early education manager and center managers.
    • Supports the program's continuous quality improvement in development screenings, curriculum, individualization, ongoing assessment, disabilities services, and CLASS.
    • Supervise and analyze school readiness outcomes and create action plans for improvements
    • Ensure that the CLASS data is utilized for continuous quality improvement and to support the delivery of quality teacher and child outcomes.
    • Ensure systems are in place to maintain the highest quality of services to children and families in compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards, DCDEE, and Health and Sanitation.
    • Ensures the annual licensing visit, annual fire inspections, and sanitation visits are completed and follow-up is addressed.
    • Through monitoring, ensure the child files and staff files are accurate according to HS, DCDEE, and local regulation
    • Assist in the hiring of the education team, center staff, and center managers
    • Works in collaboration with the Professional Development Coordinator on the development of the annual staff training plan to ensure consistency with the results of ongoing monitoring efforts
    • Assist in the preparation of the Head Start PIR
    • Assist in the preparation of the grant application
    • Assist in the development and management of the Head Start budget
    • Participate in the planning and implementation of the annual self-assessment and community assessment process
    • Monitor and evaluate program activities, system procedures, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and quality control
    • Represent Head Start on local planning committees
    • Attend and participate in staff meetings, agency events, and parent/community meetings as requested.
    • Works with the management team, Policy Council, and Governing Board in developing and reviewing program proposals, grant budgets, and plans.
    • Provide leadership and supervision to assigned staff and effectively communicate expectations and desired outcomes.
    • Monitor, audit, and update Memorandum of Understandings(MOUs) and/or other related agreements to ensure compliance.
    • Investigate incidents that may occur, such as but not limited to accidents, incidents, complaints, or concerns from staff, volunteers, parents, or other community partners
    • Maintains confidentiality of information at all times.
    • Attends all training, staff, and case management meetings as required.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Position Qualifications:
    Required
    • Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Social Services/Human Services, Early Childhood Education, or a related field
    • Minimum of five years of professional experience within Head Start/Early Head Start or Early Care and Education services or related field
    • Five years of leadership experience in management, including three direct supervisory experience
    • Experience working in an early childhood setting and diverse populations preferred.
    • Valid driver’s license
    Preferred
    • Master’s Degree in Human Services, Early Childhood Education or related field

    • Requires knowledge and experience in data collection and information processes and systems, as well as childcare regulations, policy, and procedure compliance.
    • Advanced computer literacy in a lead position includes database management, spreadsheet, and word processing.

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as needed

    • Demonstrated ability to articulate ideas clearly (both written and orally), listen accurately, and establish a personal rapport with people from various backgrounds.
    • Ability to maintain dignity and self-control in stressful situations; objective about personal strengths and limitations.
    • Proven logical, systematic, integrative, conceptualizing thought process.
    • Ability to work outside regular business hours to meet Agency needs
