Child Life Specialist jobs in Gainesville, FL
Child Life Specialist is responsible for the design and implementation of pediatric programs, therapies, and activities among young patients. Works with families to assist in caring for childhood hospitalizations or disabilities. Being a Child Life Specialist monitors child development to ensure normal progression. Provides in-depth care as needed to more urgent cases. Additionally, Child Life Specialist may require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Child Life Specialist typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. Job Opening Summary
This position assesses and provides services in response to the identified psychosocial and developmental needs of hospitalized children and their families. This position improves or enhances psychosocial functioning of pediatric patients and families by providing opportunities for improving coping skills through therapeutic interventions.Job Opening Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:- Bachelor’s degree in human service area, child life, child development, child and family studies, early childhood education, special education, child psychology, recreational therapy or related fields from an accredited institution required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of child and adolescent growth and development.
- Two years of experience working with children in a health care setting preferred.
- Preference will be given to applicants with previous hospital experience or training and CCLS/CTRS certification and experience.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:-
Certified or certificate-eligible as a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
- If certificate-eligible, will attain certification within one year in order to retain position.

Clinical internship in progress or internship eligible per ACLP guidelines may be considered.
Minimum Pay Rate - Hourly: $21.06
