Child Life Specialist jobs in Macon, GA

Child Life Specialist is responsible for the design and implementation of pediatric programs, therapies, and activities among young patients. Works with families to assist in caring for childhood hospitalizations or disabilities. Being a Child Life Specialist monitors child development to ensure normal progression. Provides in-depth care as needed to more urgent cases. Additionally, Child Life Specialist may require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Child Life Specialist typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed.     • Plans activities and interventions to aid pediatric patients in coping with hospitalization
    • Assists patients in the continuation of normal growth and development during hospitalization
    • Uses appropriate teaching materials to prepare children/families for procedures and hospitalization
    • Makes appropriates referrals to outside organizations
    • Describes sensory experiences, sequence of events timing and duration of procedures in developmentally appropriate language

    What you need: 

    • High School or GED Diploma
    • Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Recreation Therapy Child Development Education or a closely related field
    • Clinical Internship in Child Life required
    • Child Life Certification to be obtained within one year of hire
