Child Life Specialist is responsible for the design and implementation of pediatric programs, therapies, and activities among young patients. Works with families to assist in caring for childhood hospitalizations or disabilities. Being a Child Life Specialist monitors child development to ensure normal progression. Provides in-depth care as needed to more urgent cases. Additionally, Child Life Specialist may require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Child Life Specialist typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed.   • Summary:
    The Life Skills Specialist will collaborate with clients and Family Services’ case management staff to provide individualized and flexible life skills development to engage and integrate clients into the community. This position will serve as a coach to clients and offer trauma-informed and trauma-responsive services. The Life Skills Specialist will help facilitate access to resources and supports to maximize clients’ independence and strengths by using empowerment and recovery-oriented approaches. This position assists domestic violence and other eligible interpersonal violence survivors enrolled in Rapid Rehousing and their families while in the Emergency Shelter and/ or in the community as they move toward safe housing.
    Major Responsibilities:
    • Engage clients with empathy and trauma-informed principles to assess clients’ needs and produce support plans.
    • Maintain knowledge of and implement empowerment strategies.
    • Advise clients of their rights to benefits and other supportive services.
    • Assist clients with paperwork, such as housing applications and gathering documents needed, and practical skills, such as cooking, budgeting, and home maintenance.
    • Assists the clients to develop follow through skills and achievement of the goals defined in their housing plan.
    • Maintains consistent communication with Victim Advocate Case Managers and reports concerns when indicated.
    • Collating and providing information on housing vacancies and housing rights.
    • Develops relationships with other stakeholders, including landlords, to assist individuals with the resources needed to achieve housing stability.
    • Helps provide a safe and supportive environment for clients.
    • Maintains a positive image in the local and professional communities.
    • Ensures compliance with Agency, Federal, State and local laws and regulations and funding source requirements.
    • Maintains accurate data collection and records and adheres to reporting requirements, including case notes.
    • Maintains dignity, boundaries and emotional regulation in stressful situations and objectivity about personal strengths and limitations.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
    • College experience preferred
    • Minimum of one year experience in human services required
    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
    • Maintains physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: walking, bending, stretching, lifting, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment.
    • Ability to work flexible/overtime hours, as needed.
    • Requires valid NC driver’s license and ability to travel between various agency sites and community resources.
