Childbirth Educator provides instruction and education to patients planning to give birth. Presents curriculum in a group setting. Being a Childbirth Educator reviews class material and recommends changes based on educational standards. May assist in developing new content. Additionally, Childbirth Educator may require a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Childbirth Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. We are a leader in the development and provision of a variety of community programs and services provided by qualified, highly trained, client focused staff. Our programs include Early Head Start / Head Start, the Mason County Homeless Services, Weatherization Assistance, Case Management / Homemaker Services, Senior Community Services (Mature Worker), and Veteran Supportive Services.
    We currently have several openings for Infant Toddler Educator for our Head Start/Early Head Start program in Cabell County WV to join our team and achieve great things together.

    Pay Details (subject to change)

    Level I: $14.33/hour Level II: $15.52/hour Level III: $16.84/hour

    Level Qualifications

    Level I. High school diploma/GED plus CDA/ACDS credential.

    Level II. High school diploma/GED plus CDA/ACDS credential and one year of experience.

    Level III. A.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education or related area or current CDA/ACDS credential, plus two years of experience.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Must meet Level I qualifications.
    • A desire to work with young children;
    • a strong interest in improving self and community;
    • self-motivated with ability to work without direct supervision;
    • writing skills;
    • valid driver's license with safe driving record or State ID.
    • Must pass drug screen and a criminal history background check.
    • Must successfully pass a physical exam every two years.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Level II or Level III qualifications

    • Ensure that the program environment helps children develop emotional security and facility in social relationships.
    • Feelings of competence, self-esteem and positive attitudes toward learning.
    • As Primary Caregiver develop each child's curriculum that meets their own individual needs and development.
    • Work in partnership with families to provide an environment of acceptance that supports and respects gender, culture, language, ethnicity and family composition.
    • Encouraging development, which enhances each child's strengths by building trust and fostering independence.
    • Provide opportunities to increase their child's observation skills and to share assessments with staff that will help plan the learning experiences.
    • Supporting each child's learning, using various strategies including experimentation, inquiry, observation, play and exploration.
    • Promoting interaction and language use among children and between children and adults.
    • Provide activities that promote the development of emerging communication skills of infants and toddlers by providing daily opportunities for each child to interact with others and to express him or herself freely.
    • Development of the physical skills of infants and toddlers, including gross motor skills, such as grasping, pulling, pushing, crawling, walking and climbing.
    • Fine motor encouraging the development of small-specialized motions, using the eyes, mouth, hands and feet.

    • Observe and record children's progress on various skills as assessment of children's progress and lesson planning.
    • Complete a developmental assessment and Behavior Checklist for each child within the first six weeks in center and update on a regular basis.
    • Work cooperatively with center team regarding scheduling and coordination of classroom/center activities.
    • Encourage families to become engaged with school readiness activities and all phases of parent volunteer participation as requested or assigned.
    • Maintain center, with the center team, in such a manner as to assure compliance with fire, safety, and health standards and ensure the safety and welfare of children in both indoor and outdoor environments by providing ongoing supervision.
    • Use positive guidance techniques to direct behavior and in developing children's confidence and self-esteem.
    • Work as a team with ITE/On-site Supervisor/Education Specialist in establishing transition plan, learning centers, directing/managing activities with children, and their use of learning materials and equipment.
    • Must obtain or maintain current CPR, First Aid, driver’s license (if required by the program) and any other necessary credentials.
    • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
