    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    This is a highly responsible and independent position responsible for assisting the Health Promotion Program with multiple Community Health Improvement priorities including diabetes prevention, health screenings, physical activity and nutrition education, minority health, health equity, and related activities. This position will focus on developing and implementing strategies and activities identified in the Community Health Improvement Plan and the National Diabetes Prevention Program. It requires public speaking, teaching, coalition building, partnership development, program development skills, marketing, and public relations. A working knowledge of computers is required, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. This position requires local travel and some weekend and evening hours.


    Assess needs, design, and implement education and awareness workshops and campaigns around impact of health screenings, healthy eating, and physical activity in preventing and managing chronic diseases, as well as promoting health observances that align with division goals. Identify and develop partners in the community to act as health champions, site hosts, and referral partners. Provide education and technical assistance on policy, systems, and environmental changes to support a sustainable culture of health in St. Lucie County. Assist with development and implementation of an annual calendar to plan marketing content for flyers, presentations, social media posts, radio programs, public service announcements, etc. to promote various initiatives. Plan and participate in community events to engage residents around health improvement topics.


    Serve as an administrator on the Walker Tracker platform to support Billion Steps Challenge promotion, enrollment, and ongoing engagement. Assist in collecting updates and preparing summaries and success stories for events and programs. Promote other health promotion programs, including Tobacco Free Florida Quit Your Way, worksite wellness, health screenings, etc.


    Lead the National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) by facilitating DPP classes in-person and online, overseeing daily operations, class schedule maintenance, data collection and reporting, recruitment and training of life-style coaches to deliver the CDC approved curriculum, program promotion and marketing, procurement of equipment and materials; recruiting community-based settings to host program; participating in the development and promotion of a provider referral system to increase enrollment in both in-person and online. Complete training to become a NDPP Lifestyle Coach and how to use the online Health and Lifestyle Training (HALT) platform.


    Participate in Healthy St. Lucie Coalition, St. Lucie Diabetes Coalition, and other community coalitions to raise awareness of goals within the Community Health Improvement Plan, Health Equity Plan, Healthy Communities Plan, the National Diabetes Prevention Program, and related initiatives. Facilitate community engagement and collaborate with partners and other health promotion programs to leverage reach and synergy within the community around plan goals and strategies.


    Perform other related duties as assigned, including, but not limited to disaster preparedness activities. Attend all required DOH and other meetings/trainings. Apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Perform related work as required and other added duties.


    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Willing to perform job duties in all arears of neighborhoods.
    • One year experience providing health education and outreach.
    • Knowledge of community resources and programs associated with the identified specialty area, and health education techniques.
    • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
    • Ability to provide technical assistance and education to diverse audiences.
    • Ability to develop and present health literacy sensitive educational programs and/or workshops orally and/or in a variety of formats.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, community members, and clients, ability to bend and twist, walk up to ½ mile, lift up to 50 pounds, sit and stand for extended periods of time.
    • Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, and working efficiently; as well as public speaking, written communication, event planning, and presentation skills.
    • A working knowledge of computers is required, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
    • Required to travel 25-50% of time per week.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum:

    • Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.
    • Florida driver license
    • Bachelor’s degree in public health, nutrition, health education, education, human services, or related field.
    • One year experience providing health education and outreach.
    • Required to travel 25-50% of time per week.

    Preferred:

    • Certified Health Education Specialist
    • Bilingual or multilingual in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
