Educator Position Description

Port Discover’s Educators are responsible for carrying out all of the center's various education and public programs, ex, family, community and school programs, etc.This position involves planning and presenting educational programs that enhance public understanding of STEAM subject areas.

Hours: This position is part-time, up to 20 hours per week.

Reports to: Executive Director

Responsibilities:

• Deliver Port Discover’s programs to venues both in and away from the center, including, but not limited to: schools, youth programs, after school programs and community events;
• While on floor shift or in the center programs, serve as front desk cashier, greeting guests, cleaning and managing opening and closing duties.
• Assist in maintaining positive working relationship with teachers and administrators in local and regional schools;
• Assist in the development of scheduled outreach activities;
• Assist in the development of informal science education programs;

Qualifications:

• Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in science or education, or comparable experience teaching in formal and/or informal learning settings.

-Interacting with the general public is a key part of this position. Therefore, excellent written and verbal communication skills - as well as a positive and friendly approach to the public - are a must.

• Self-motivation, ability to work with little supervision, and valuing a team-oriented and creative environment are essential qualities.

Available shifts and compensation: We have available shifts all days of the week. Compensation is $12.00 - $15.00/hour.
