Civil Engineer designs and supervises construction projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, railroads, or roads. Reviews designs, tests and assesses materials, and performs necessary data collection and calculations in areas such as traffic forecasting, soil capacity, groundwater analysis, and structure design. Being a Civil Engineer responsibilities also include estimating costs, estimating personnel and material needs, preparing proposals, and establishing completion dates. May also assist in inspecting aging infrastructure or overseeing improvement projects. Additionally, Civil Engineer requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. May require a Professional Engineer License (PE). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Civil Engineer work is closely managed.     Essential Job Functions:

    • Planning, implementing, and managing civil engineering projects
    • Developing proposals – management of proposals including cost estimate and proposal preparation, reviewing of invoicing and collections
    • Preparing and managing budgets and contract administration
    • Supervises and monitors client relationship strategies.  Serves as the primary client contact for one or more clients. 
    • Direct and supervise other engineers’ activities – may perform duties of a supervisor or department manager.
    • Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction documents, studies, permits, and designs for various projects.

    Education/Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
    • 8 years’ experience
    • Registered Professional Engineer in Illinois
    • Knowledge of industry-standard computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Estimating/Project Management type software
