Civil Engineer jobs in El Paso, TX

Civil Engineer designs and supervises construction projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, railroads, or roads. Reviews designs, tests and assesses materials, and performs necessary data collection and calculations in areas such as traffic forecasting, soil capacity, groundwater analysis, and structure design. Being a Civil Engineer responsibilities also include estimating costs, estimating personnel and material needs, preparing proposals, and establishing completion dates. May also assist in inspecting aging infrastructure or overseeing improvement projects. Additionally, Civil Engineer requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. May require a Professional Engineer License (PE). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Civil Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Civil Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

    Additional requirements and position responsibilities include:

    • Management of land/site development projects, including technical design, quality control, and project management
    • Business development activities and assignments concentrated in a specific target area
    • Project client interface
    • Financial management of projects
    • Working with the team to set goals to meet business objectives

    Qualifications

    • PE in Texas, or ability to obtain license within 12 months of hire date
    • BS in Civil Engineering (MS a plus)
    • 4 years of relevant project experience (5-8 years of experience strongly preferred) 
    • Experience managing civil/site development projects
    • Experience leading the civil design efforts for public works or site development projects
    • Sound technical design background
    • Excellent communication, verbal and written, and organizational skills
    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of local and U.S. design codes and standards
    • Related local experience preferred
