Civil Engineering Supervisor supervises a team of civil engineers who design and develop construction projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, railroads, and roads. Ensures maintenance of equipment and adherence to safety prevention measures. Being a Civil Engineering Supervisor monitors personnel needs and schedules staff accordingly. Also responsible for preparing proposals, establishing completion dates and cost estimates, and evaluation results. Additionally, Civil Engineering Supervisor requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically requires the Certified Professional Engineer (PE) credential. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor. The Engineering Division of the Trumbull Department of Public Works (DPW) seeks an engineering intern to assist in municipal permitting administration, civil engineering, and construction inspection. Our department oversees both our own construction projects as well as any private, permit work that takes place in the City Right of Way (sanitary sewer laterals, natural gas, water, storm and underground conduits). Both City and private projects also include a considerable amount of sidewalk and curb work (both concrete and bituminous concrete). Duties include operation of a city vehicle, construction inspection with notes and pictures, data entry, filing, and general assistance with various technical and administrative assignments. This position will work a 32 hour per week schedule.Projects typically fall under the categories of Road Paving, Traffic Signals and Storm Drainage. Construction experience and familiarity with construction safety is required. Writing reports, measuring quantities, verifying that specifications/regulations are being met is required. The ability to follow instructions precisely, communicate clearly, and work independently is also required. A working knowledge of computers, word processing and data entry is preferred. This position requires the individual be engaged in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited college or university with an emphasis in engineering, geology, environmental science, or possess either an undergraduate or graduate degree in any of the above.
- A Bachelor's degree or in pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and/or related field or professional experience in construction, paving, excavation, or construction administration.
- Working proficiently with Windows Office, ArcGIS, Adobe Acrobat
- Ability to operate a digital camera
- Familiar with civil engineering, highway and/or utility construction
- Proficiency with data manipulation (e.g., Excel, Access)
- Excellent and demonstrated verbal and written communications skills
