    About the Position

    As an Associate Principal Engineer in the Renewable Civil group, you will function as a subject matter expert working on NEIs most complex projects. This position will have a high level of autonomy and involve leadership, mentoring, and engineering responsibilities. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment helping with QA/QC and establishing / enforcing best practices and procedures.

    Salary Range: $100,000 - $175,000 / year
    The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.

    This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) and full-time remote candidates.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Works closely with Technical Directors and the Vice President, acting as a subject matter expert on the most complex projects within the Renewable Generation department
    • Performs the review of detailed physical, and civil design and engineering for all aspects of electric power substations including for generating plants, utility transmission and distribution, and industrial and commercial facilities
    • Typical design products might include equipment general arrangement, elevations, plan, and profile, grading plans, road plans, foundation plan and details, bus and connection details, bill of materials, building plan, conductor stringing tables, fence details, permitting, and drainage plans
    • Writes and reviews material, and construction specifications
    • Reviews submittals for conformance with specifications and design
    • Assists with the creation and enforcement of technical standards across the department
    • Prepares hand and computer-based calculations and models for designs. Employee should create a simple hand check to quantify the computer aided results
    • Prepares a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including cost estimates, budget reports, proposals, and studies for complex projects
    • Performs field inspection and construction supervision services
    • Checks the work of designers, drafters, and field service personnel for overall quality and accuracy as required
    • Maintains a strong understanding and comprehension of applicable Codes and Standards
    • Attends conferences, training workshops, seminars, undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work
    • Attends safety training and follows safety rules and guidelines
    • Other duties as assigned

    Must Have

    • Education: Bachelors in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, civil/structural or mechanical option preferred
    • Experience: 7 years of relevant engineering or field experience
    • Licensure: PE is required
    • Proficiency with AutoCAD, MathCAD, modeling, and design software such as SAP2000, PLS-CADD, and AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office Suite
    • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
    • Good interpersonal and people skills
    • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
