Civil Engineering Supervisor supervises a team of civil engineers who design and develop construction projects such as airports, bridges, channels, dams, railroads, and roads. Ensures maintenance of equipment and adherence to safety prevention measures. Being a Civil Engineering Supervisor monitors personnel needs and schedules staff accordingly. Also responsible for preparing proposals, establishing completion dates and cost estimates, and evaluation results. Additionally, Civil Engineering Supervisor requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically requires the Certified Professional Engineer (PE) credential. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor.     The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: 

    • Lead a project team consisting of engineers, designers, and field personnel involved in the design, modification, analysis and constructability of new and existing utility systems.
    • Work on challenging assignments that include investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of engineering and construction related issues.
    • Act as a team lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of utility engineering work.
    • Prepare, review and/or approve proposals, contracts or cost estimates.
    • Negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with sub-consultants, and clients.
    • Perform and/or oversee designs for underground and overhead utility installations.
    • Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
    • Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
    • Interface with vendors to prepare materials and equipment purchase specifications for client recommendations.
    • Research available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems to utilize for the execution of required project designs.
    • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements.
    • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation.
    • Travel Required as needed. 

    Minimum Qualifications 

    • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Degree required from ABET accredited institution.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the transportation engineering, design or construction fields.
    • Professional Engineering License.
    • Utility experience preferred, but not required.

    Essential Skills

    • Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation, and Microsoft Office Suite

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • Construction experience is a plus.
    • Surveying experience is a plus.
    • Design experience.
