About the Opportunity
This is an open position with Ohio Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp [OE].
This job is responsible for the reliability and assessment work for the Distribution function of the Company.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate and direct a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
- Assist in commission Worst Performing Circuit (WPC) analysis and identify action items.
- Build familiarity with state regulatory requirements for distribution inspection and maintenance.
- Perform post-storm circuit sweeps on areas identified by operations and identify and assist with prioritizing line and forestry issues.*
- Investigate Frequent Device Outages, unknown outages for all line fuses and upstream devices, overloaded transformer issues and Customer Minutes of Interruption (CMI) issues and assist in making recommendations as appropriate.
- Monitor recloser operations, assist in proposing remedies for frequent operations.
- Initiate notification of unsafe or dangerous conditions with the Distribution Control Center (DCC) to implement immediate follow-up and/or repairs.*
- Review and interpret reliability data from PowerOn, SAP and the Enterprise Data Warehouse, and apply information to prioritize work.
- Aid in Customer Experiencing Multiple Interruption (CEMI) analysis and the recommendation of reliability improvements.
- Investigate and respond to customer reliability inquiries received through regulatory agencies, company officers and/or company processes.
- Monitor field inoperable equipment logs for capacitor programming needs.
- Initiate and track Unsatisfactory Performance Report (UPR).
- Assist in preparation of budget items (RPA - Request for Project Authorization, ECAT's- Energy Delivery Capital Allocation Tool) for Distribution System Reliability work.
- Attend all required regulatory training.
- Provide assistance during emergencies and storm-related activities and travel to various off-site locations, as well as FirstEnergy office locations, training facilities and customer sites, when requested
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline 0-1 years of related work experience, OR Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline 2-3 years of related work experience, OR High School Diploma (or GED) 4 years of related work experience.
- Related work experience is knowledge of construction and maintenance practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment, and tools which would be used to determine the resources necessary to perform construction and maintenance work activities.
- Current knowledge of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC).
- Understand the Company’s Accident Prevention Handbook and practical application in the workplace.
- Ability to interpret work requests, engineering drawings, schematics, equipment instruction manuals and procedures to develop accurate work plans.
- Working knowledge of:
- The purpose, function, and operating characteristics of equipment, and residential, commercial, and utility electrical distribution and control systems
- Construction methods, maintenance practices, service practices, standards, and procedures
- Procedures and processes for the acquisition of materials, equipment, and tools
- Understand and effectively apply legal and regulatory requirements as appropriate.
- Ability to develop, collect, organize, and analyze information from a variety of sources to develop reports and provide information on backlog and productivity.
- Professionalism to work with engineer and management personnel, as well as interface and work cooperatively with customers, contractors, and the general public, in a courteous manner that demonstrates FirstEnergy’s rules of engagement.
- Ability to maintain strong working relationships at all levels.
- Self-motivated and able to multi-task with competing priorities.
- Ability to provide quality customer service, both internally and externally.
- Possess solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with PC software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.), Outlook, SAP, geographical information system (GIS), customer request work scheduling (CREWS), power outage reporting system (PowerOn), computer aided drafting (CAD/AutoCAD) and Energy Delivery Outage Application is preferred. Experience with database query tools (Hyperion/BRIO, Business Explorer Analyzer (BEX), Cognos); experience using Visual Basic is a plus.
- Must have a personal vehicle to commute to various facilities and locations as required and possess a valid driver’s license.
