Being a Claims Analyst maintains updated records and prepares required documentation. Assists in controlling the cost of processing claims. Additionally, Claims Analyst contacts policyholders about claims and may provide information regarding the amount of benefits. May require a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Claims Analyst gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.   • Summary: Melton Truck Lines is a Qualified Self-Insured under the FMCSA; and as such its Claims Adjusters perform office work on a daily basis essential to the operations of Melton Truck Lines and are required to be certified/licensed by the State in which they practice. They are responsible for the collection and management of all accident reports and accident files. Claims Adjusters initially manage investigation by deciding what outside resources are required in each incident, interacting with drivers, vendors, first responders, customers, third-party claimants and others to manage accident scenes and response, gather and preserve information concerning any damage or loss, comply with all FMCSA and State requirements, and provide management with necessary updates and information as it becomes available. They also manage the expenses related to the files, set reserve for BIPD, FTC, Cargo, and Receivables. They will secure proof of claims, negotiate settlements with claimants/customers and have full discretion to arrange rentals, and repairs for at fault damages. Career development may include additional systems and analytical skills and development, including regulatory and insurance reporting and high level analysis of all aspects of claims and loss, reporting and dashboard tools.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties as assigned.

    • Provide quality claims handling on cargo and auto claims – collision, liability and/or bodily injury claims - from inception and investigation through settlement negotiations and closure.
    • Negotiates settlements using specific industry and case knowledge to reach the best agreement for the operational success of Melton.
    • Input accident/cargo reports from drivers and claimants; accurately document information in timely and efficient manner.
    • Verbal and written communication with customers, claimants, drivers, insurance companies, outside adjusters, vendors, attorneys, witnesses, salvage buyers, law enforcement officials and internal departments to resolve claims promptly, fairly and equitably.
    • Use knowledge, experience, and independent judgment to determine liability, evaluate damages and establish reserves.
    • Pursue subrogation claims against other parties found to be at fault.
    • On-call on a rotation basis for after business hours accidents requiring immediate attention (phone calls).
    • Produce and distribute daily claims report and other analytical reports as requested.
    • Regular onsite job attendance is required to facilitate effective interaction with others.

    Has contact with the following documents: DOT files including compliance records and drug testing records; claim files to include police reports, legal correspondence and medical records; inspections/citations; insurance; and AS400 driver history records.

    Qualification Requirements: as follows:

    Education and/or Experience: Must have an active Claims Adjusters license and minimum 2 years of claims experience. 

    Special Training: Needs to be familiar with software programs such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and Innovative (AS400).

    Special Skills: Needs to be able to deal with high-pressure situations in a fast paced and multi-tasking environment. Strong written and verbal communication and listening skills are required. Bilingual ability in Spanish is helpful but not required. Detail oriented with good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work independently. Negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

    Physical Demands: It is necessary to talk, hear, sit, walk, type, and write. It is occasionally necessary to lift up to 25 lbs.
