Claims Director directs and oversees the operations of an insurance claims department to meet operational, financial, and service requirements. Establishes policies and procedures for the administration of insurance claims for personal, property, or casualty loss based on coverage, appraisal, and verifiable damage. Being a Claims Director is responsible for the strategic processing and payment of claims. Maintains up-to-date- knowledge of legislation, regulations, and industry events which pertain to insurance claims. Additionally, Claims Director provides expert guidance and consultation to staff on the most complex claims. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Claims Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Claims Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The UHS Insurance Department is hiring a Director Corporate Claims overseeing the claims handling for all professional and general liability self-insured and commercially insured claims for over 300 facilities and run-off claims for sold or divested facilities.

     

    Key Responsibilities include:

    • Reviews all new claims for exposure analysis/reserve analysis.
    • Assign claims with specific instructions for handling.
    • Meets weekly with supervisors to review new exposures and discuss claims having changes in exposure or significant litigation activity.
    • Meets weekly with Vice President to provide updates on high exposure claims or changes in exposure and need for reserve changes.
    • Obtain authority for settlement and reserves according to insurance and SOX guidelines.
    • Oversees defense cost control measures and Medicare compliance requirements.
    • Communicates with Corporate Risk Staff monthly to identify and review risk and claim issues.
    • Interacts with defense counsel and insurance brokers regularly.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.

    • Minimum of 10 years Professional and General Liability claims oversight-coverage analysis, investigation, exposure analysis, negotiation, and resolution.
    • Ability to analyze exposure, reserve for potential exposure, and analyze insurance coverage.
    • Travel 5% (US and International).
