Claims Examiner reviews, evaluates, and processes insurance claims and makes recommendations for resolution. Examines and authorizes insurance claims investigated by insurance adjusters. Being a Claims Examiner studies reports prepared by adjusters and similar claims to determine the extent of insurance coverage and validity of the claim. Communicates with agents, claimants, and policy holders. Additionally, Claims Examiner determines settlement according to organization practices and procedures. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Claims Examiner work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner with Central Minnesota Sexual Assault Center:
The objective of the Central MN Sexual Assault Center (CMSAC) FNE position is:
To ensure that sexual assault victims have the right to immediate, compassionate, and comprehensive medical-legal evaluation and treatment by a specially trained professional who has the experience to anticipate their needs during this time of crisis.
CMSAC FNE is committed to providing a high standard of evidence collection and medical care to facilitate the victims’ recovery to a higher level of functioning, prevent secondary injury or illness, and ultimately increase the prosecution of sex offenders to reduce the incidence of rape.
GENERAL SUMMARY
Responsible for responding to sexual assault victims at multiple facilities in Central Minnesota. Facilities include Centra Care St. Cloud, Melrose, Paynesville, Sauk Centre, Long Prairie, and Monticello. Majority of forensic exams are completed at Centra Care St. Cloud. In collaboration with law enforcement, the FNE will respond to suspect exams at St. Cloud PD and/or St. Cloud Hospital. Trained FNE’s are employed to:

i. Where to report a sexual assault
ii. Emergency telephone numbers
iii. Where to report a case of child sexual abuse
iv. What happens after a report is made
Medical:
i. Collection of forensic evidence following a sexual assault
ii. Medical procedures including forensic exam, prophylaxis treatment, and emergency contraception
Legal:
i. Respond to subpoenas in criminal court trial’s that involve a sexual assault victim.
Advocacy
i. Work as a team with Central MN Sexual Assault Center’s Advocate’s to address safety, resources, and follow-up services for all victims.
Serve as an employee of Central MN Sexual Assault Center.
Serve as an educator in the community on the importance of forensic evidence collection after a sexual assault for possible future prosecution and for the most sensitive care of the patient/victim in the hospital setting.
Provide accurate information about services, procedures, and resources.
Provide services needed by victims of sexual assault, which may not be available elsewhere.
