Claims Manager manages the operations of an insurance claims department to meet operational, financial, and service requirements. Oversees the intake and processing of insurance claims for personal, property, or casualty loss based on coverage, appraisal, and verifiable damage. Being a Claims Manager manages appraisal and examination staff and processes. Assures timely and proper disposition of claims based on policy provisions. Additionally, Claims Manager recommends and implements best practices to ensure complete and thorough claim settlements, legal reviews, and investigations following company policies and insurance industry regulations. Determines the value of settlements for escalated claims. Manages negotiations of settlements and administration of claims in litigation. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Claims Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Claims Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Provides technical expertise and work direction to a claim unit by reviewing and assigning claims to claim representatives. Ensures prompt and accurate file handling by prioritizing workloads and conducting file quality audits. Supervises and motivates assigned staff to provide quality file handling and settlement with superior customer service.

    This role will work out of our Stevens Point, WI office (Hybrid)

    What You'll Do:

    You'll provide exceptional guidance and direction to a Commercial - Transportation unit in order to help Sentry maintain its level of standards and ensure a high level of customer service is provided to our policyholders and claimants. In addition, you'll:
    • Provide settlement authorization for claims exceeding the authorization of the staff
    • Ensure prompt and accurate file handling by prioritizing workloads and conducting file quality audits
    • Monitors service by staff, identify needed improvements and develops and implements improvement programs
    • Monitors the file progression on including trial activity on files with significant loss impact, and participates in file review sessions to determine direction
    • Provide work direction for the assigned claims unit
    • My assist, as necessary, in the investigation, negotiation, and closing of claims within assigned payment authorization

    What it Takes:
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
    • Required 5 years of related work experience
    • Strong human relations and communications skills
    • Technical knowledge of insurance policies and coverages, including a thorough knowledge of claim handling
    • Previous experience in claims, including investigations and settlements
