    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Act as Safe Quality Food Practitioner and assume all related responsibilities for food safety and security, including  determining assignments for other personnel as required for maintaining certification.
    • Responsible for anticipating and solving quality problems through evaluation of ingredients, processes, materials, and finished products.
    • Provide guidance and leadership in situations where deviations have occurred or a potential risk has been identified related to quality and food safety.
    • Oversee monitoring, verification, and validation to ensure that all products leaving the facility and/or warehouse meet quality and food safety standards.
    • Lead integration of current quality standards with food safety processes, including, but not limited to, HACCP, FSMA, regulatory and internal audits, sanitation, quality systems reviews, incoming ingredient inspection, food safety audits, consumer complaints, and standardized work instructions.
    • Develop, maintain, and improve upon systems for document control, process control, verifications, optimization of ingredient use, allergen awareness, trace and recall, incoming, staging, holding/quarantine, sanitation, and shipping products.
    • Conduct on going training to management and employees related to quality, sanitation, and food safety functions.
    • Ensure compliance with USDA, FDA, and other regulatory bodies; act as a liaison between customer and management.
    • Accommodate third party inspections as applicable to this title’s position.
    • Oversee and/or conduct pre- operational equipment/plant inspection\testing to ensure food safety.
    • Act as main point of contact for external laboratories.
    • Communicate with suppliers concerning quality issues.
    • Promote a collaborative approach to working with production, without jeopardizing quality standards, to ensure customer satisfaction, management objectives; provide test results, feedback, and interpretation timely and accurately.
    • Supervise and assist with maintaining a clean and organized work area to ensure employee safety, regulatory compliance, product and material integrity, including sanitation of plant and equipment as needed.
    • Responsible for ensuring that quality and food safety requirements concerning GMP’s, OSHA, SQF, USDA, and OU are met.
    • Ensure that the Quality Management System remains current, accurate, and user friendly. Provide continuing evaluation /oversight of the QMS documents for relevancy, outdated or unnecessary information relating to processes, procedures, work instructions, and forms.
    • Responsible for pest control program and knowledgeable in allowable pesticide application and residue regulation in relation to all products and customer regulation and specification. 
    • Participates as an active member of the Food Safety Committee, HACCP, Development Team, Leadership Team, and Safety Committee.
    • Possess the physical ability to stand for an entire shift, lift and carry up to 60 pounds, squat, bend, twist, and have the visual acuity for quality inspection.
    • Some overtime and weekend work may be required.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Safety, or other closely related field of study such as chemistry, biology, microbiology, etc. or 10 years of relevant experience
    • HACCP Coordinator Certification a plus
    • SQF Practitioner a plus
    • Internal auditing experience a plus
    • Lean Manufacturing knowledge a plus
    • Statistics knowledge and use of SPC a plus
    • Understanding of maintaining a Gluten Free facility a plus
    • Understanding of the principles for Organic products and their production a plus.
    • Understanding of CRF 111 for Dietary Supplements a plus
    • Formal training on Root Cause Analysis a plus
    • Strong working knowledge of food safety standards such as SQF, AIB, Silliker, etc
    • Strong computer skills, knowledge and application of laboratory equipment
    • Knowledge of food packaging and blending equipment a plus
    • Minimum of 2 years management experience in any field
    • Acceptable background check, negative drug test, no substantial findings on the NC Health Care Registry
