  • JOB TITLE: Director of Quality and Safety

    PURPOSE: Reporting to the President, the Director of Quality & Safety/Accountable Manager will oversee and be responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the Quality and Safety Department and interface with all levels of management as well as all regulatory agencies.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:


    • Primary point of contact for the FAA and various foreign civil aviation authority personnel.

    • Identify and resolve safety and regulatory compliance issues with customers, regulatory inspectors and auditors.

    • Make application for revisions or amendments to the Operations Specifications, make application for foreign Repair Station Authorizations and submit renewal applications for existing authorizations.

    • Monitor the internal audit and surveillance of required programs mandated by all regulatory agencies. Ensure provisions are implemented to correct any discrepancies reported.

    • Maintain and update policies and procedures as it relates to tool calibration, technical data, shelf-life and scrap parts programs. Ensure calibration standards are traceable to the National Institute of Technical Standards or other governmental controlling agency standards if applicable.

    • Monitor safety standards compliance, industry trends, and applicable regulations (Federal, State and local) and ensure appropriate actions are taken.

    • Oversee technical library and ensure that repair station technical data is current and available while work is being performed.

    • Update and maintain the all Repair Station required manuals.

    • Manage Inspection Department and ensure proper staffing levels are maintained in order to support business needs.

    • Oversee Training Department and ensure employee training records are maintained up to date and current.

    • Maintain the master list and control of inspection stamps and maintain a current roster of authorized Supervisory and Inspection Personnel.

    • Conduct or coordinate incident investigations.

    • Actively drive and support the company safety program and initiatives.

    • Strive for continuous process improvements and increasing efficiencies in execution and delivery with safety as a priority.

    • Maintain close and frequent communication with the General Manager, notifying him/her of progress and any road-blocks or threats to the project’s critical path that could impact re-delivery.

    • Deal with customers in a cordial, respectful and professional manner, and to see to it that all personnel behave accordingly.

    • Ensure that the repair station NDT program, manuals and training are maintained to required standards for the NDT limitations as listed on the operations specifications.


      EDUCATION: High School Diploma/GED.  Undergraduate college degree or equivalent preferred.


      LICENSES / QUALIFICATIONS:  Holds a current FAA certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings.


      EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 15 years aviation maintenance experience required with leadership progression in operations or quality functions.  Experience on current airframes in work at the repair station is preferred.


      KNOWLEDGE& SKILLS:


      • Expert knowledge in FAR policies and procedures.

      • Working knowledge of maintenance planning/production control and repair services in a Part 145 environment.

      • Strong leadership skills.

      • Effective decision-making skills.

      • Strong negotiating skills.

      • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Quick Aviation.

      • Excellent written and oral communication skills in order to effectively interact with all levels of staff from different departments effectively.

      • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills in order to prioritize workload according to business demands.

      • Is required to be proficient in oral and written English.

      WORKING CONDITIONS:

      • Requires frequent walking, standing and/or climbing. 

      • Expected to work through specially designed airframe, engine and undercarriage openings while standing on ladders or scaffolds; to use hoists and lifts; required precision instruments and other necessary tools.

      • Exposure to climate changes normally experienced in an aviation repair facility.

      • Travel may be required to perform off-site service on assigned detachments or other company requirements.

      • Position may require working on weekends, holidays and alternate shifts or schedules to include night shifts.
