    Department Summary

    The College of Design (DSGN) is composed of three schools and one independent department: the School of Architecture & Environment; the School of Planning, Public Policy and Management; the School of Art Design; and the Department of the History of Art and Architecture. One of six professional schools or colleges at the University of Oregon, DSGN has over 100 tenure related and approximately 80 non-tenure-related faculty. These faculty drive undergraduate and graduate degree programs that enroll more than 1500 undergraduate majors, 500 graduate students, and contribute to the broad liberal arts education of another 2000 students. DSGN runs an overall operating budget of $25.5 million with operations in both Eugene and Portland.

    The college’s degree offerings are in Eugene, nestled in the lush Willamette Valley, and at the historic White Stag Block, the University of Oregon’s hub of activity, discussion, and engagement in Portland. Students can also take advantage of many varied field school and study abroad opportunities to enrich their academic experiences.

    Position Summary

    The Finance and Operations Manager (FOM) reports to and provides direct financial and operational assistance to the Assistant Dean of Finance and Operations (ADFO) in the DSGN. This position also works regularly with DSGN administration, faculty, and other staff members to provide training and guidance on business and financial policies, processes, and procedures. This position coordinates directly with the Central Business Service Office (CBSO), shared with the School of Journalism and Communication and Clark Honors College, to review and approve DSGN accounts payable, purchasing, contracting, and travel requests. The FOM independently manages all accounts receivable and oversees grant management, scholarship processing and tracking, and contract review/approvals. The FOM will support the Assistant Dean of Facilities by providing financial project management. This position will serve as the primary liaison between the Dean's office and the College of Design Technology Services and ensure timely support for User Support Services (USS).

    The Finance and Operations Manager generates, distributes, and reviews financial reports for various budget holders including both faculty and staff. This position independently interprets reports to ensure expenses are correctly allocated and budgets are not overspent, addressing issues in coordination with the ADFO as they arise.

    This position serves as direct supervisor for one Classified Office Specialist position, assigning operational tasks and overseeing work such as grant management, providing training and support with travel policies, budget reconciliations, and budget auditing.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a similar field, OR five years of experience in accounting or finance
    • Two years of experience working in an accounting system and generating financial reports
    • Two years of direct supervisory experience OR three years of lead work experience including assigning and reviewing tasks

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working in a higher education institution
    • Experience working with Banner or Cognos or similar financial and reporting systems
    • Experience with grant reconciliation oversight
    • Experience creating guidelines and procedures documents
    • Experience managing endowment reconciliation oversight in a higher education setting
