GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, provides safe, consistent, high-quality care to all surgical patients. Is accountable for assigned patients, demonstrates understanding of all surgical policies and procedures and able to recognize early signs of pre-operative and post-operative complications. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:
1.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Hawarden Regional Healthcare standards. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, and HRH policies and procedures, including all provisions of the Health Insurance Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior by implementing the organizational vision, values, and mission.

Prioritizes components of an in-depth assessment to determine patient's holistic health status on an ongoing basis.

Understands the Surgery Scheduling process for patients and staff.
4.
Documents all charting requirements for surgical patients accurately, legibly, and in compliance with hospital policies. Ensures documentation accurately reflects supplies, equipment and services provided.
5.
Knowledgeable in Pre-Operative requirements and Post-Operative requirements.
6.
Understanding of Anesthesia requirements prior to surgery procedures and knowledgeable in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) requirements.
7.
Competent in handling and ordering of specimens and tissues.
8.
Complete Pre-Post-Operative Nurse Orientation Checklist prior to caring for surgical patients.
9.
Understand and perform post-operative cleaning as required.
10.
Understand and perform sterile technique as required.
11.
Able to manage post-operative complications.
12.
Understand gastroenterology, cystoscopy, and pain clinic processes and document all processes accurately for patients.

Follow all family and visitor policies for surgi

Achieves and maintains BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
15.
Demonstrates general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)

Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees, conferences, and in services. Is knowledgeable of and complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies & Procedures. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as requested. Keeps up to date on new procedures and research. Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees and HRH business.
17.
Completes all mandatory training such as Healthstream, The Patient Experience, Safe Choices, Crucial Conversations and any other training as designated by Administration.
18.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
