Clinical Applications Specialist

  • The Clinical Applications Specialist is responsible for providing ongoing complex system support, administration, maintenance, training and upgrades of clinical applications. Maintains up to date knowledge regarding application capabilities and makes recommendations of best practices. Must be able to direct and coordinate project activities. Will monitor system performance and apply appropriate action which would include recommending software upgrades/updates for system(s) as required. Will mentor junior level staff on department process, application support, and implementation. Supports advanced computer system capabilities by studying technical applications and hardware; following support recommendations based on hardware integration availability from vendor and knowledge of enterprise patient care workflows. Ensures the performance, resources, and reliability of hardware and software integrations to meet department needs. Will acquire, install, or upgrade computer components and software; provide routine automation; troubleshoot; train and/or supervise staff; or offer technical support for projects for assigned applications. Must be able to lead small support project efforts in a Project Manager capacity. Maintain a level of cybersecurity knowledge sufficient to securely accomplish their job duties. Demonstrates a basic understanding and adheres to departmental process for change control.

    Responsibilities

    1. Maintains up to date knowledge and recommends changes regarding application capabilities and makes recommendations of best practices. 2. Utilizes knowledge of process design with the ability to anticipate system implications. 3. Responsible for training junior staff in technical complexities of assigned work. 4. Effectively and accurately documents the analysis, coding, testing and implementations of applications. 5. Contributes toward the collaboration of designing optimized process 6. Leads the application of appropriate information technology by defining required functionality and objectives. 7. Directs and coordinates project activities including application upgrades and patches. 8. Recommends hardware/software upgrades or implementations for systems. 9. Provides technical support to application support areas within the department and to interface with application vendors to aid in installation of new releases/systems. 10. Must demonstrate skills for implementing performance-tuning tools to aid in monitoring of system performance. 11. Works with direct end users to support current and develop future customer complex workflow requirements that relate to ongoing support and new implementations. 12. Must have appropriate and timely communications skills to communicate with senior level management. 13. Completed certification/accreditation for specific vendor and/or governing body related to specific applications/tools for which responsibility is held for support. 14. Participates in contract review process, which will include initial vendor contact and contract review prior to delivering to management for further review, negotiation, and execution. 15. Analyzes extracted data from supported system(s) for accuracy and relevance. 16. Significant contribution to a departmental or institution wide quality effort annually. 17. On call as required. 18. Flexible hours when needed. 19. All other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Common Duties and Responsibilities (Essential duties common to all positions) 1. Maintain and document all applicable required education. 2. Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations. 3. Comply with the company's attendance policy. 4. Participate in the continuous, quality improvement activities of the department and institution. 5. Perform work in a cost effective manner. 6. Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations. 7. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned.

    Education

    • Bachelor's Degree (Required) Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s and advanced certification preferred. Experience: 10 years of related information technology or clinical technical support experience. Preferred minimum of 8 years’ experience with system analysis, design, building, testing and implementation of applications within an electronic health record. Cerner experience preferred
