Clinical Ethicist offers guidance to patients, their families, and professional staff on ethical, legal and policy issues and concerns stemming from clinical interactions between health care professionals and patients. Provides guidance to the institutional ethics committee pertaining to policy formulation and educational and case review activities. Being a Clinical Ethicist develops institutional policies concerning ethical issues such as "do-not-resuscitate" and "withdrawal of life-support". Requires a master's degree or doctorate related to health ethics. Additionally, Clinical Ethicist typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. To be a Clinical Ethicist typically requires 4 to 7 years of related experience. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Teach Clinical Laboratory Sciences courses (lectures and labs) to on-campus and distance BSCLS/MS/DCLS students. Specifically, to teach CLLS 4311 Advanced Case Studies, CLLS 3414 Biochemistry, CLLS 3200 Basic Methods and Introduction to Lab Operations. CLLS 4313 Laboratory Management.
• Develop lesson plans, prepare presentations, and obtain visual aids for on campus and distance web-based courses, grade student papers, and set up student laboratories and practical examinations.
• Advise students (both on-campus and distance) on academic and research activities.
• Participate in scholarly, professional, and administrative service activities.
* Participate in community service learning projects (St. Vincent's Student Run Clinical, etc.)
• Participate in departmental meetings and committee meetings, and other scholarly activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have a master’s degree in a health-related field. Additional minimum qualifications include 3 years experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and hold a Professional certification as a generalist Medical Laboratory Scientist from the American Society for Clinical Pathology - Board of Certification, MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctoral degree in health related field and 3 years teaching experience.
SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.
