Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
The primary function of a Direct Support Professional (DSP) is to assure the positive teaching of the people served in a supportive and continuous manner. This teaching takes place in the home and community and is a vital part of the services provided by MARF. The DSP is responsible for assuring that daily activities are implemented and carried out in the manner planned by the interdisciplinary team at the Person Centered Plan. The DSP is supervised by the QIDP or their designee (House Manager/ Program Coordinator, Associate House Manager).
Qualifications
The DSP must have a high school diploma or the equivalent, maintain a class c driver’s license, demonstrate positive interpersonal communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to work without close supervision.
All training necessary is provided. Must be able/willing to complete in-house medication administration training, NCI , CPR/FA, and other trainings.
DSP Job Responsibilities
Ensure that the human and civil rights of the people served are respected and defended at all times and in all places
Comply with confidentiality rules and regulations both concerning transmittal of person served information and information, as well as all licensure regulations
Adhere to the policies and procedures of MARF
Maintain working knowledge of emergency procedure(s)
Take on extra tasks and training as assigned by the QIDP, House Manager, Program Coordinator, or Associate House Manager
Household Activities/ Activities of Daily Living:
Assure that people served are actively engaged and supervised in all aspects of daily living
Purchase, prepare, serve, and document family style meals according to the menu plan and individual specialized diets
Complete general maintenance and cleaning of the home and vehicle(s) per checklists posted in the homes and monthly safety inspections as assigned by supervisors
Adhere to all OSHA standards
Assist the people served in maintaining their personal property
Provide appropriate support to persons served in their daily hygiene routines
Assure that the people look their best and that appropriate and individualized hair styles, makeup, and clothing are encouraged
Ensure that the people are dressed appropriately according to the activity planned and the weather expected for the day
Respond to the needs of the people served including following their individual daily schedules
Provide safe, punctual transportation of the people served to work, professional appointments, and recreation and leisure activities
Provide support to persons served in their participation of recreation and leisure activities.
This position requires lifting, pulling, pushing and bending through the day. DSP must follow MARF’s back safety procedures at all times.
