ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the development, implementation, and maintenance of LU’s GIS program including design, implementation, training, and day-to-day support for GIS.
- Generate and maintain geodatabase layers and associated attribute information working with LU staff to meet departmental needs.
- Use existing CAD files to import data into ArcGIS.
- Manage GIS staff in the performance of their duties, workload, priorities, and tasks/projects.
- Maintenance of GIS including conversions, upgrades, integrations, and enhancements.Stays informed of new technologies and software needed to support changing needs.
- Prepare and maintain maps, spreadsheets, and Word documents as needed.
- Manage information exchange and dissemination of maps and content to LU staff, faculty, students, and the public.
- Create and update a database of map records for future reference purposes.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned/required.
- Ability to communicate well and work independently.
- Oversees the GIS staff of technicians and student workers.
- Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.
- Identify and implement new methodologies that would benefit the University.
- Provide competent and efficient service to the Facilities Management Division.
- Must use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) as required while performing the job duties and responsibilities of a GIS Manager, protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed shoe, respirators/ masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen.
- As essential personnel: you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Maintenance Technicians are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, CFAW, and summer camps amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.

- Work in office in Lynchburg, VA and expected to visit campus as needed.

This position is responsible for 5 staff.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
Candidate must possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geospatial Science, geography, cartography, or related field with a concentration in GIS; or 2-5 years training and work experience that equates to a bachelor’s degree.
- Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS desktop software including ArcMap and ArcPro, and other related GIS packages and other computerized design programs such as AutoCAD.
- Familiar with geospatial data, such as aerial and satellite data, zoning, land surveys, plats, topography, stormwater, zoning, tax, wetlands, and forested lands.
- Knowledge of building systems, including plumbing, electrical, sanitary sewer, communication, and storm.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including excel and PowerPoint.

- Maintain a thorough knowledge of architectural, surveying, and engineering symbols and graphic standards.

- Must continue education to improve technical knowledge and skills through outside and in-house programs, seminars, training sessions, site visits, and other resources.

- Occasionally required to travel to local and on and off-campus locations.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate. However, this position does, on occasion, require job site visits that will not be climate controlled or well lit.
Driving Requirements
Able to pass LU driving test and become an authorized LU driver as needed for site visits, in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required, must be able to pass all requirements to be on Liberty University insurance.
